Really, really dirty exhaust tips

This may be a dumb question, but please hear me out... I purchased my 8 used, it is a base AT model, in very good condition. The only appearance issue (other than scracthes that the dealer is repainting the trunk lid because of) is the exhaust tips. The outsides are extremely dirty. I took Nevr-Dull to them for about 40 minutes a few weeks ago and the results surprised me. The "rims" of the tips came out absolutely sparkling, I mean knock your socks off shiny. The rest of the outside of the tips did not clean up one bit. So here is the question, are stock 8 exhaust tips chrome? or are mine mist likely something else? If they could be something else how do I tell what they are, and what do I use to clean them? Like I said the trunk is getting repainted now, but when I get it back I can post close up pics. Thanks for the help.

I don’t think the problem is inherent to the oil that is used in the Renesis rotary engine. I’ve seen 350Z’s and G35’s with the burnt looking exhaust tips. Try using Eagle One – A2Z All Wheel & Tire Cleaner. Easy to use and makes the next cleaning easier.

Simple Green is what I use it cuts grease and oil very very well and removes almost all the grime from the exhaust tips.

I used Spray 9 on my Borla tips, and they work great as well.
