Quick Detailer Use?
 

When using a quick detailer on a *slightly* dusty car, which method do you use? After reading product instructions and many online how-tos I am confused.

1. wipe down the car with a damp terry cloth or mf towel, rinsing after every panel then use the QD on another damp towel
or
2. just use the QD, letting it pick up the light dust

Also, do you prefer a damp towel whe using QD?

I use a california duster first, then the quick detailer to get anything that the duster doesn't get off. Like waterspots. I spray qd on one towel, then use another to wipe it off. I've found this helps prevent streaking. If I have another towel, I'll swap my drying/wiping towel out half way through.

I agree with Labop, I always use a car duster to get the pollen or light dust off first. Then, go with the QD spray.

If you use a QD without washing your car first I would definatly get all the dust off first.

I've been curious about this too...is there any particularly gentle car soap that'll get the dust and dirt off but leave the wax alone? I've been wanting to put multiple layers of wax on mine, but since mines is a daily driver, I just haven't had the time in between curings to put on a 2nd layer, without having to drive it out onto the road. I don't think I trust QD'ing, I'd be afraid of rubbing dust into the car.

I used to use a microfiber towel and a few sprays of QD. I never used any damp cloth before the QD. I now use the microfiber dry/dust mitt from fiber-works which works great. Even without quick detail, this mitt picks up just about all the dust. If you want to add a little extra shine, a few sprays of QD and just wipe over it with the dry dust mitt.

Don't use just any cloth, use a towel!
 

Definitely use a Car Duster first. I dilute my detailing spray (Zaino Z-6) 50/50 with distilled water, which makes it less prone to streaking. With Z-6, you spray directly on to the paint and then wipe off with a dry terry cloth towel.

I prefer microfiber because it doesn't shed. Maybe I'm buying the wrong brand of terry cloth, but they all shed little bits of fabric. I can run them through the drier half a dozen times, and not get it all off.

I use meguiars quick spray all the time


normally its best the day after a car wash or for small jobs

Hell just spray it on and clean it.

I use a California Duster then follow with QD and 2 MF towels. Lots of good QD out there.

Almost all cloths except microfiber will shed at least a little bit. I've found that a microfiber dry/dust mitt does a GREAT job for QD. I also use the Plush towel from fiber-works for QD.
