Protecting Leather Seats
There have been numerous threads discussing protective measures on waxing and finishing the exterior of the car, does anyone have suggestions on how to prep the leather seats for long term protection?

I'm curious too.. I never owned leather either.
I read in here somewhere that Zaino Leather In A Bottle is top notch.. I'm thinking of trying it.. anyone else? |
Can you buy Zaino leather at retail stores?

Leatherique is one of the best products i've used. Most guys I've talked to about Zaino say that it's nothing really special. It's no better than what you can find at Pepboys or Autozone.
I've used leatherique on my 97 Supra and 92 Lexus Coupe, and it works really well. Makes the leather really soft. http://www.leatherique.com/products.htm Also, make sure your windows are tinted. I recommend 20% and you should be fine. |
i got that "touch of class" spray from the dealer. they spray inside and out. is that a good protectent.

Leather does not like heat! I would agree with the reply tha the window tint would be step one. You want the leather breathable and supple and really a damp mild soap and water towel wiping is good with the ocassional leather conditioner. IF the leather is like the Miata and the Millennia then it is a coated leather (sprayed) and that is a dye paint. Topical oils will probably have little effect. I know that they make things for top coated leathers but do not know what to recommend. Lexus gave out this Apple Care Leather stuff but it did not clean.
I looked up the Leatherique site and they have product called Klear Coat that sounds like the ticket but... ANybody used that? |

I've been using the Zaino Leather In A Bottle and for the most part it seems pretty solid. Anyhow this is my first car with brand new leather so I had some questions..
Why is it that sometimes after someone gets off a seat you can see the pattern of their jeans on the seat? Kind of like an oil pattern, but it's not oily. It's almost as if the person's clothes sucked some of the moisture or possibly the Zaino off the leather. And this can happen a while after letting the seats "cure" if I apply the Zaino... sometimes a day or two. I wonder if I'm taking care of the seats incorrectly.. Anyone? |
