Possible proposition on seat covers

OK, I have been talking to my wife about making me custom seat covers for my RX8. I like the rotary head rest thing and I don’t want to cover it up but I still would like to protect my seats as best as I could.

She tells me that she is not an expert making seat covers and the only way she would attempt it is if she had a pattern of the seat. I understand somewhat what she is asking for (the design or diagram of the seat) but I can’t find it anywhere. I know Mazda should have the pattern but they are not going to give it to me since they will lose sales of their own seat covers.

Does anyone know where to find it or how to make sewing patterns? I think I understand what would be needed, a little, but she tells me I don’t know what I’m doing…LOL.

I thought if someone on this site knows how to sew real good or who’s wife, girlfriend, sister, mother, etc knew how to sew real good we could provide them with the pattern and we could all have customer seat covers.

Heck, rx8club members could get them at cost or with a discount, but we could then sell them to all sorts of people with RX8’s or that sold RX8 stuff.

Any help would be great…THANKS! :D

OK, no one is answering so maybe I broke some rule or something? Let me correct my question then...

Does anyone know how to make sewing patterns or where I could go to learn how to do it? My wife is now telling me she needs instuctions too....Arrr, so I see myself making my own customer seat covers...LOL

the mazda seat covers go THROUGH the rotary holes, they don't cover them, if thats why you dont want the mazda ones. I have them, I like them.

No, I actually wanted the rotary in the headrest to show but they are too pricy...I think.

I live in FL and I heard they feel like that neopream (how ever it's spelled) so they got hot FAST! But, that was just one person I heard say that. Are the Mazda one's made out of that stuff? Do they feel hot?

The reason I want to make my own is that I wanted some for the back seats also.

I just don't know how to make a pattern so my wife can make it them for me...I'll keep searching...

I would think you have the pattern in your car. Couldn't you use a cheap white sheet, lay it on the sections of the seat, and chalk out the sections? If you leave extra around all the edges to sew & cut it out, it should be a good pattern for the material you choose.

if you want to know what the mazda seat covers feel like, its sorta like the material that the manual comes in.

Sheep skins front and back on mine. The rotary accents do not show up so they are still like new. Warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Euw. Not a big fan of that material. It gets hot easily and would be sticky in the summers, don't you think? Too bad that they fit the seats really well, which is one characteristic I'm looking for.

Brownchiro, be careful of the same safety hazards I presently have. With generic seat covers, you're covering up the air bags on the sides of the seats.

Sheep skins are custom, made for the RX8 and for side air bags.
