Odd paint feel on hood

2005 GT Silver RX8, 2K miles

I've had this issue since day one. I just need to know if its normal.

On my hood, around the \/ shape and out from it a bit, the paint feels very rough. The rest of the hood feels fine. I've tried clay bar, Zaino ZFX treatments to no avail. The paint itself looks ok. You cant tell theres a difference when I do a light and mirror test from that area and the rest of the hood. I almost want to say the area wasnt clear coated but i'm not sure. The rest of the car feels fine too. It's just this one area on the hood. Is this normal?

Time for wax?

If it doesn't look rough, then it shouldn't be a problem....see the dealer?

does it feel like it has dust on it that wont come off? try a clay bar treatment, i used clay bar on my car and it took all of the roughness off the paint. no matter how many times oyu wash your car you can never get all of the stuff off, so thats when you use claybar... can get a kit for about 15-20 bucks at any auto parts store, let me know if it helps if you try it

ps: i will almost garuntee it working for you

Its probably wax residue, I get this sometimes on my trunk lid. Try dawn wash & claybar again, for just that spot. Still doesnt work?: use a clean towel 100% cotton towel and scrub hard.

Maybe it happened before you purchased it.. could have been damaged by some chemical..

:tear: Yeah Yeah, all I saw was the Ziano part, didnt see the clay bar. Sad thing is I read it about 3 times  ok counting that out, might wanna try a fine rubbing compound if you trust yourself enough, if not bring it somewhere and get them to try buffing it out

Thanks. I'll take it to the dealership and see what they say. One of my friends metioned that it might be some packaging glue residue from when they shipped it overseas.

Try some G3, If that stuff does not fix it nothing will apart from a re-spray.

dirtystyle 03-01-2006 11:09 AM

Whats G3?

It's Farecla G3, a rubbing compound. Quite fierce, too.

If claying didn't help and the car hasn't been painted/messed with, it's probably some residue from something and you should find out if there is a solvent that could remove it without harming the paint.

I took delivery of my RX8 in December and I noticed the same thing too. It's basically prevalent on the *horizontal surfaces* only, on the hood, roof, and trunk. the lower body panels are much smother. so I'm guessing that perhaps my car sat on the dealer lot for many months before I bought it, and sorta just got beaten up by the elements. my normal 2-step glaze and wax process didn't really remove the 'rough' feeling (although it certainly *looks* nice)

So in everyone's opinion, what is the better next step to try for the problem areas : Clay Bar, or Rubbing Compound?
