New technique for clay bar
 

After the Buick was hit by a drunk while parked I repaired the damage.

Since the side panels look different. Bright white vs. yellow white I decided to use a clay bar.

Of course most of the yellow was comming from tree and flower pollen.

I tried using rubbing alcohol with the clay bar.

Works great and better than paying for a lubricant or using soapy water.

The alcohol softens up the clay so you can srub the finish. The alcohol dries quickly.
It helps remove the old wax. It helps to remove the grime. It's only 50 cents at the 99cent store and you can use it for several clay bar cleanings of the car.

The alcohol will penetrate any wax or Zaino finish.

Um... Alcohol is like a paint stripper. You're essentially removing your clearcoat and ruining your paint finish.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

yes, alcohol is a solvent which will remove more than just old wax.

I think Razz was TRYING to remove some of the paint since the new fenders were brigher then the older paint that had naturally faded a little???

solvents + car = bad :(

Zaino recommends alcohol for stripping off their polishes, but it doesn't strip paint, consider yourself corrected

but oh, it does to some extent.

if you ever want to get any marker, even permanent marker off any surface, you can use iso-propyl alcohol.

not to mention the fact that it absorbs right into your bloodstream.

a quick wipe is okay for removing stuff, but i wouldnt let it set on your car any longer than necessary.

I don't think alcohol will hurt today's paint. Especially the water born versions. Now the old lacquers... that might be a problem.

Yeah, and the fumes can be embarrassing too. Amazing how fast vaporized alcohol will go to your head.

In thouse touch up paint kits that some car dealers sell with the touch up paint which includes a "glob remover" and a sealer, the "glob remover" is just isopropyl alcohol.

I don't think it will remove the clearcoat, just the wax on top of it. I would definitely rewax after doing this though.
