need advice on cleaning polished lip on wheels...
Sup guys.. just wanted some input on how to clean rims with polished lips. I mistakenly used some kind of tire break dust cleaner and it hazed up the lip of my rims =( good thing i only used it on 1 wheel first rather than all 4. but do you guys have any advice? also.. is there a way to UN-haze the one rim that I have by using something?

DO NOT USE WHEEL CLEANERS. they have acid in them and if your polished lip rims are not coated (which im pretty sure theyre not because your rims hazed) they will easily be stained by the acid in the cleaner. if you dont mind. try mixing some car wash in a spray bottle (like meguiars gold class.. dont go for nxt because its a bit harsh..). about 1 oz in a full bottle of water would be ok. next you use a safe brush to clean em. i like using this brush.
http://meguiars.com/?wheel-tire-brus...h-Short-Handle you can shine up the haze and the rest of the rims with meg's nxt polish http://www.meguiars.com/?wheel-care/...l-Metal-Polysh apply it tot he rims and start buffing... but if you want better and faster results try Mothers power ball. |
I use Meguiars all wheel cleaner of chrome wheel cleaner. They claim they are safe and I have had no problems yet. I use Mothers chrome polish after that.

chrome and polished rims are two different things. polished rims are like exposed shiney metal... so no protective coatings what so ever. megs all wheel cleaner contains acids that can haze and start to harm the metal. diluted car wash and a very soft wheel brush would be best when cleaning polished rims.

Bummer. Sorry man, didn't know that.

Lips that touch rims shall never touch mine
 Althhough rim kissing may be considered an act of Rotary worship; in the future be more careful when using lips to clean tires - lipstick is especially greasy and will leave marks. Licking rims also questionable, although there maybe a nice asphalt and rubber taste -
Instead Wash with a strong soap and water spray, then try cleaning cloths, the prewetted kind with pledge furniture polish, or Armorall. Or better still, a microfiber cloth - windex makes disposable ones, and windex the wheel parts to remove dirt, followed by Mcquires tire spray, or ICE to make it shine... :mdrmed: |
^ Wtf?!
|
Windex is for glass. Will never come near my wheels...ever!
|
Thanks SayNoToPistons! Never Dull worked! your advice was much appreciated! Thanks again!
|
no prob. just remember to clean them with regular car wash water diluted in a spray bottle. and remember to dry them after washing!!
|
the best product i have found is "Eagle One" polish, and a microfiber cloth
works wonders on any polished metal and and can help polish non-polished metals |
I personally like blue magic or flitz. :)

I recently bought a leftover '06 Shinka and the wheels have black spots on them; so far I have tried an all-wheel cleaner and a mild polish. Neither has worked. Any ideas before I subject it to the dealer's ministrations? :scared:
