My Zaino application (Tit Gray)

After a while of simply washing my car at the nearest pressure washer I decided to order myself a Zaino Ultimate Protection Kit. Once everything arrived I was frightened to say the least, because of how many items are included in the package, but after doing some reading and following directions from users like Jedi54 and MikeTyson8MyKids I decided to take a weekend exclusively to wash and polish my 8, please note that this is my first time. Here is my application and some pictures for comparison

1. Washed the car with Water/Detergent to remove previous wax/polish
2. Used the clay bar throughout all the car, I was surprised to see how much stuff it was picking up that I hadn't seen on the car itself.
3. Washed the car with Z7. At this point I took the first pictures that you will see for comparison
4. Dried the car with a towel.
5. Applied Z5 with ZFX
6. Sprayed Z6
7. Applied Z5 with ZFX
8. Sprayed Z6
9. Applied Z2 with ZFX
10. Sprayed Z6
11. Applied Z2 with ZFX
12. Sprayed Z6 The following day I took the second pictures that you will see for comparison

I started at 2:30pm and finished at 6:30pm, so it didn't take as long as I expected, which means I probably did something wrong. Anyways, here is a side-by-side comparison of no polish vs polish.

I fell in love with the dark (no polished) picture, but it's probably due to the shadow as it didn't look like that in any other picture.

Other comments: I loved the leather cleaner and leather in a bottle, every time I go into my car I feel luxurious lol.

Z-16 is amazing for the tires and all the black plastics that re on the 8. They look dark and bright, as if they were new.

Overall I think it was a great product, I totally noticed a difference from when it was polished and before that. Next weekend I will coat it again a few times to see how that turns out.

Also, I wanted to eat the polish, it smells so good, same with the Z7.

Nice job on the zaino, glad you went back and read some of our posts as it can make the job easier. That reminds me, I've been meaning to write a Zaino 101 thread for years now. Hmm... I should probably stop procrastinating on that.
I digress.

It looks like everything came out pretty good, try taking some pics without the shade and you see a great shine.
how does it feel when you run the back of your hand along it? should be super smooth with that many coats.
Oh, that leads me to my next point: More is not always better. You really shouldn't do more then 3 coats of polish (Z2 / Z5) in one day

Note: Apply no more than three coats of ZFX™ in a 24 hour period. For optimum results, use your ZFX™ enabled polish within 6 hours of mixing.

the Z5 is great for dark colors so I'm glad you started there and then worked your way towards a final coat of Z2.
If you do another round of zaino, might I recommend doing two coats of Z2, no Z5 (unless you still have fine swirl marks you want to try and mask)
Allow the zaino to dry a little longer, 4 coats in 4 hours including clay bar sounds like you might have rushed things a bit.
One good way to tell if it's ready to be removed is by running one finger across a panel that has polish, if it wipes the polish off smoothly it's ready. If it streaks, let it sit a while longer.
I can apply polish to the entire car in about 10 - 15 minutes but then I usually wait at least 30 minutes or more for it to cure. ie; 1 hour per coat usually works well for me. (curing time will vary depending on humidity so maybe that's why you were able to go faster being that you're in TX? :dunno: )

As for the leather products: they're awesome, I really do love the look / feel of the interior after using the leather in a bottle. I use it on the 8 and the Bimmer. :)

Yes jedi master I did run my finger on the car to make sure it was dry, on one occasion it smudged so I let it a little longer, and it was about 98 degrees outside so that why they dried so quickly (20~25 mins tops) . The only reason I did 4 coats was because I had a lot of Z5 left over. My original plan was to do 1 coat of Z5 and 2 Z2 like you recommended in 1 post but I had half a bottle of Z5 so I said what the hell and went for it. I used a half bottle for 2 coats. I'm not sure it was too little or too much. And thanks for the compliments! And I called it Tit gray to get more attention lol :p

Javii: it's hard to gauge how much Zaino you'll use when doing multiple coats, when I first started using it I found I was using too much.
These days I can mix half a bottle of Z2, apply 3 coats, and still have product left over.

Did you do another round this past weekend?

Javii 08-09-2012 12:39 PM

Yeah I did but only 2 coats, I was doing it at 10pm haha. 1 Z5 and 1Z2. This weekend I'm doing 3 more coats.
