Mr. Clean Autodry AND Meguiras Soap - Need Advice
 

I'm wondering if I can wash my car as normal with Meguiras soap and then just use the "Auto Dry" to rinse off all the soap.


I've got a black RX-8 and I'm attempting to prevent as many swirl marks as I can.


If I don't have to dry my car, I'm hoping it helps crack down on the swirls.

You are using the Mr. Clean just for rinsing utilizing the filter? Won't hurt a thing.

Take the Meguiars and mix it 50/50 with water and use that as the soap with the Mr. Clean.

Mr. Clean soap is the devil. It's as harsh as Dawn.

You only need to coat your car with the Mr Clean Soap, after you wash it with whatever soap you want, so that the rinse step will work correctly.

I wash with Meguiars car wash first, rinse with fresh water, then coat with Mr Clean Soap and let it soak in, rinse again with water, and then use the Mr Clean auto dry rinse. Perfect everytime!

drying is not what scratches your car, is washing with a dirty/clogged microfiber cloth, and or not rinsing the cloth periodically in a clean bucket of water.

If you cleaned all the dirt off your car during washing then when you’re drying the next waffle weave cloth has nothing to grind into your ClearCoat when you’re wiping dry.

AutoDry's soap is what makes it dry spotless, its soap also creates an exothermic reaction to clean your car, over time exothermic + clearcoat ='s bad

I don't use the soap anymore since reading a few posts here. I don't want to take any chances. I do still use the handheld sprayer for rinsing.

Well in my opinion it's LONG TERM affects may not be known yet. I've talked to people in the auto body industry that say it is harmeless if used as the intructions indicate. And that it will NOT damage clearcoat. I personally stopped using it after some questions were raised about it. Not too sure if I'll use it again or not. Here's some of what the PDF says about it.




Does it leave a film behind? Does it affect the polish or the wax? Mr. Clean AutoDry doesn’t leave behind a film, just a temporary, thin layer of the Dry-Rinse Polymer molecules that are replenished each time the car gets washed. These do not strip the wax, or harm the paint or clearcoat in any way.


What is the pH of Mr. Clean AutoDry Carwash Soap? Fasten your seat belts, here comes a light-speed review of high school chemistry. On a scale of 0 to 14, pH measures the hydrogen ions floating in a substance. If the pH is less than 7, the solution is acidic; if it’s greater than 7, it’s basic or alkaline. Pure water has a neutral pH of 7.0. Orange juice (3.0 pH), beer (4.5 pH), and unpolluted rainwater (6.2 pH) are acidic, while baking soda (8.2 pH) and household bleach (11 pH) are alkaline. In its undiluted form, Mr. Clean AutoDry Carwash Soap is slightly acidic, with a pH of ~5. But when it’s diluted as directed, its pH bracket is neutral (pH 6 to 8 depending on the water used to dilute the soap). After the soap is rinsed away with tap water, the Mr. Clean AutoDry Filter comes in. It deionizes the water and leaves you with a spotless car.

So there's a special polymer in the soap that works along with the rinse to avoid water spotting. Hmmmm. So rinsing with deionized water alone isn't enough to avoid the need to dry?

I think using the filtered water to rinse the car will let the car dry spotless already. It should be like using soft water.

Using the special soap with the polymer gives the car some water repellency sort of speak. ie. if it rains you car can/may still dry spotless. Of course over time the polymer wears off and you have to apply it again.

That's my 2 cents.
