ive been meaning to share this with you guys and ask how i can solve this problem but since i barely ever drive my car i had never seen the need to. but summer is right around the corner and i need to repair this. this is on both sides of the car (right below front fender strakes) and feels like 50 grit sandpaper when i run my finger across it. any ideas on how i can repair the rust and get this looking new and blend in decently with the paint? |
anyone? i also need my eyelids painted as well, does anyone have a rough estimate on how much it would be to have those professionally painted?
sand the chassis back to bare metal in that area and have the car resprayed.
Or do what the top notch restorers do: whole chassis back to bare metal and a good acid bath lol. |
damn...i really didnt want to have to go that far but if it gets the job done :/ do you have any idea what do to as far as prep for the new paint goes?
you have to sand all the rust down, apply some specific primer and paint over it.
Rust must be treated seriously otherwise it will come back. Here we have a warranty vs rust and paint defects, it lasts 10 years. |
What primer do you reccomend?
that's for the body shop to say!
Well I was going to sand it and prep it by myself to save some money...but ill just leave it up to them :) thanks for the info!
It may end up being a 2000$ job, don't risk wasting it because you want to save a few bucks.
Doesn't Mazda offer a warranty against rust? You should look into that, I'm not sure the exact mileage but that's pretty bad for a car that's only 8-9 years old.
well its because the previous owner drove it through snow a few times...and here in PA the salt on the roads just absolultey eat away at the metal on the car
