Liquid Glass On A New Car
 

I talked to a detailer (who owns his business x30years). mostly does high-end cars. He recommended liquid glass. The applicant takes a day and last for app. 3 years. cost $300. My car was bought new 3 weeks ago, 24 miles on it but manufactor date on the door 7/04. I doubt my car has seen any real TLC. and my back brakes are showing rust- he suggested since I bought it new take it back and have the plates replaced and or he will sand them down and paint them with clear coat thus preventing rust in the future. Any thoughts....

There are a lot of opinions on this here. You will find the overwhelming majority of the owners here use and love zaino, however, there are a few using liquid glass. Overall I would say that most people use sealants rather than waxes. I would suggest that you look into some of the older threads and find out what people are using such as zaino or nxt. I personally use the wolfgang line or product that I was introduced to in south florida. There is no 100% right answer, and no you are not dumb if you don’t choose zaino. Find out what you like and try a few different things out there, but I would say that zaino is a good place to start. As for the dealer and the liquid glass – NO, nothing lasts for 3 years. Nothing. Period. So don’t buy that line from him. Be careful of what he is charging you to apply it because you could do it yourself. Also, if he is not going to claybar and use a paint cleaner BEFORE putting the LG on, save the money and do it yourself. The surface of the car should always be pristine before using a sealant or wax. As for the wheel hubs, yup, get that done.

liquid glass rocks, my car got completely repainted due to an accident and i used liquid glass and it is extremely shiny, and goes on and off in less than an hour. Perfect and beautiful :). If zaino is .05% shinier for ten times the work then i think you have your answer...do it yourself though its easy.

technicaly all glass is liquid as glass is not a solid material.

now back on topic, i like mothers products, their claybar and the 3 step wax system works for me! :)

I seem to like wax. I use Zymol products the stuff is huge money but worth it. By the way a shop around here only charges $95 to do the L glass treatment. do it yourself they are way to high.

I use LG...it works just fine. Your detailer is brain-dead concerning brakes. The rotors and hubs you're talking about can easily get to 300-1000 degrees and will burn off any 'clear coat' that might be foolishly applied. Only special hi-temp paint, or better yet hi-temp epoxy paint should ever be used on them. I used the epoxy that is said to be good to 900 degrees, even still, it has a brown tinge to it after track use - but - and this is good news - I've not seen a bit of rust after painting them front and rear in over two years. :)

Spin9k L Glass really work better than regular waxes??? I have a black one and am alway cleaning it

I use to use Zaino, now I use Rejex. Looks good with Rejex. Put it on the window and wheels to keep the dust and rain away.

I've nothing to compare it with except other cars. Works for me, easy to apply, seems to last beyond the point where I want to wash and LG again, so "What ta hey?" I like that it is a polymer not a wax, it is therefore much much easier to apply. Water (and dirt) just rolls off for many a month.

And remember, at the Bud Exotic Car show '04 1st place, '05 2nd place - must have been the LG...and the painted calipers.....if I'd only remembered to paint under the hood, damn! :)

If their charging you $300 for a one time application and telling you that one application lasts three years their just plain crazy. Since I've had my 8 I've had Liquid Glass applied twice. By the time the second application came around(approx 6-7 months) it was definatly showing signs it needed it. I would go with the Liquid Glass but probably do it yourself or check around for some cheaper prices.

$300 for LG application :eek: - PT Barnum had some choice words for things like this. It takes all of 1/2 hr to do the application if you are REALLY anal about it, and even less to polish it off. Then you bake it in the sun for a time, and repeat the process if you desire...I have found it is nice to repeat but certainly not a necessity. Bottom line - the 8 is a tiny car and very easy to detail w/LG. I redo the application every couple months as it is so easy to do and the surface becomes so smooth and slippery - just like glass!

Maybe there is a new career in there at these prices :rolleyes:

19.99 at autozone dude and only used like maybe 1/20th of the can, just did it last week, as for 3 years, its a polymer not paint. I think that dude has had the business for 30 but has never washed a car. I highly recomend the LG BUT make sure you clay bar it first (16.00 at autozone)

Zymol is terrible in my opinion.. used it... wax powdered up everywhere... and its gonna take a toothbrush or something to get in all the little craacks and take out the excess wax...

did i do it wrong? maybe... but the fact is that if i did it wrong... its too much work to do it right.... zaino next time for me..

Try Liquid Glass! Great stuff,easy to apply/remove,lasts long time. The only thing I've used on my 8 since I brought it home and looks better than new.

i used Zaino. i have to say even though i was tiresome to apply it. after a day's work( no kidding), you will be jumping all over the place. the car will shine insanely. i used mother's before. not too bad, but compare to ziano. that was no match.
