Lime Removal
 

Anyone know the best way to remove lime (white stuff) from the front bumber. Was behind one of those lime trucks a couple of days ago and realized there was some on my bumper. Washed it and then used quick detailer and got most of it but there is still some residue left. Any ideas????????

Well, if it's on the vinyl parts (lower air scoop where the rotary accent is), a good wash and mother's back to black should do it. Not sure on the rest of it. Have you tried bug & tar remover?

It's on the paint.

It not a tar though it like a wet white poweder. Ifyou think that will work I will try it.

Nope that didn't work, made it a little lighter, but didn't remove. I will take a pic of what I see.

Here are 2 of the spots, like a ring around where it was. About eraser size.

I'd say use limeaway, but don't know what it'd do to the paint.

what about using a mildly abrasive polish (I think xymol?) or a wet sand? might have to take it in to a detail place man. that looks nasty.

Can you feel it, or is it smoothed into the paint?

I just did a quick search on Autopia for you, and one interesting yet consistent suggestion was white vinegar. Apparently some guy who had the same predicament as you called the quarry and they told him to clean the stains with that stuff. Give it a shot and see if it works. If it doesn't, I'll jump back on there and see what I can find.

Just got from the store, Iguess it was on there too long cause that didn't help, now it just stinks :D

I think the point it to keep the paint :D

HAHA :D ... I'm sorry, man, even if that is a little funny. It wasn't originally my idea! Several people on Autopia said that would do the trick. A few people also mentioned CLR (Calcium, Lime, Rust remover) mixed with water, but that was also not recommended because they feared it would cause damage to the paint. They same caution would probably go with LimeAway, which LaBop suggested.

I have to leave the forum and my computer for the rest of the night, but I'll check again for you tomorrow if you don't beat me to the punch and see what else I can find out.

On a similar topic, I have this black stuff on the front of my car that looks like tar? Will a bug & tar remover take care of it without ruining the paint? Maybe I can use the stuff to get rid of the bug guts still on my windshield from New Years.

Yes bug and tar remover should take care of all of that, it won't hurt your paint, just wash it after you get done.

Have you tried claybar?

Jenkins-crew: First off, let me just say sorry again that the white vinegar trick didn't work. Didn't mean to make you go all the way to the grocery store for nothing. Several people on Autopia had recommended it for that exact purpose, though, so I'm disappointed that it didn't get rid of your lime stains. Did you try soaking it for a few minutes before wiping?

Markd: As a faithful 8 owner, I wash my car religiously every week, but I haven't had a chance to figure out the tar issue. Regular washing doesn't even make a dent in it. Luckily the spots aren't very noticable, and the bug guts is slowly coming off too, but those were some gigantic bugs with a lot of guts!!!

I can atest to Dazy's 8 is alway clean so you can rest assured now :)
