Lanka Review (scratch touchup blob remover)

I thought I'd let you all know about a GREAT product I use to keep my car looking new.

Lanka is a paint blob remover for touchup jobs. You put touchup the scratch.. Let it dry, then use Lanka to 'wipe' away the excess touchup paint.. It basically flushes the paint level with the rest of the paint.

First I want to say this stuff works as claimed by the creators..

I found that it works very well on black paint, while on silver paint, it didn't look as good.

In all cases it reduced the obvious appearance of the touchup job tremendously.

It works on a simple principle.. Lanka is soluable with the touchup paint but not with the cured paint. So if you mess up, you can use lanka to clear the job and start over.. It even works on past touchups.

I highly recommend Lanka for fixing up scratches.

Yep, it's good stuff!

I've already got a couple chips out of my alloys, and I tried Langka on them, and it worked well. Since there's no touch-up paint for the wheels, I used my silver Accord's old touchup paint so the color match isn't perfect but is close. When I rub my finger over the area, it's completely flush and just looks more "professional" overall.

Any other reports??

Sounds like a good product.

Cheers,

I've heard many good things about this product

...but if touchup is done the properly you will never need to use it (duh)...the toothpick way is the way to go for touchups...slow and brutally boring but almost perfect :p

Lanka, huh? Never heard of it. How much is it and where do you get it?

Also interested to know what you mean by your critique that it didnt work as well on silver. Was the touchup more noticeable so that you could actually see where you filled in the scratches?

I'm also wondering, too, if it would be noticeable anyway since the paint likely isn't as reflective as the clearcoat...?

regarding silver, the problem really isn't with Lanka, it's with the properties of silver paint.

it didn't work great on silver because silver paints contain extremely fine silver grains which seem to move about or settle near the edges while it's wet, giving the touchup job a very inconsistent texture. This causes it to be more noticeable. Even when Lanka is applied correctly--that the touchup paint is flushed with the cured paint, the touchup area's graininess is different from the rest of the paint.

It's very difficult to avoid.

Where can you purchase it?

Hm, then I bet a similar problem would occur with ti gray. Still, I like the sounds of this product. It sounds like something you would use mainly with deep scratches and chips, though, right? Not just your average swirl marks? That's all I've got are minor scratches all around from detailing and in the front from road debris.

It works - I have it in my RX8 tool box.

Just ordered in online. I've already touched up a chip on my hood and noticed the blob right on top of my rotor emblem.

The Sunlight Silver RX-8 touchup paint works well for many of us on the stock wheels.

$25 for minor scratch repair. Hm. Not bad. Will have to look into this stuff.

Also browsed around the site to look at their other products--Did you guys see the paint sealant they are selling? Says it lasts 18 months! That's better than Zaino, by the numbers. If anyone here has used it before, let us know how it looks/works.

Batmobile1 02-22-2005 11:28 PM

I've never seen a sealant look good and last over 6 months. Any metallic paint is difficult to touch up....the tiny metal flakes dont lay down the same way as when it is sprayed from a gun...heck even when it is, you have to take special measures to try to " lay" the metallics in the right direction....silver and gold are the worst for this....

Dr Color Chip

Has anone used drcolowchip.com ? It uses color code -matched paint for your car to touch up paint chips? I have read the reviews, but wondered if anyone has used it on their car. Mine is Velocity Red Mica. I have two tubes of touch up paint, but don't dare use them.

Who can recommend Dr Color Chip?
