i still have a girlfriend and now a clean car...

after a long weekend of a couple of 30mile round trips to finish a kitchen rewire for a friend the car wasnt looking the best inside or out. Dust all over the place, not to mention the dirt and scuff marks on the interior.

The paintwork needs correction but im waiting 2 months before doing anything to it after the respray on most of the body.

Anyway, hoovered before tea while the MRS watched some 'the hills' got dinner with her when it was all done and then back to watching 'the hills' for her and back to cleaning for me. even got some juice brought down

Getting started:

Interior:
  • Hoovered everything with are kirby (excellent hoovers but extremely over priced)
  • Dusted everything down with a wet chamisos just to lift the excess and loose dirty about the car.
  • Cleaned seats using AG leather cleaner, once they were clean and wiped down again i used AG leather care cream. Its made a big difference. The seats were getting really dried and starting to crack. Pics show the difference
  • APC on pedals, door sills, doors and dirty plastic bits rubbed down with my microfibre mitt.
  • APC 5:1 on the matts that had liquid spilt on them - no idea what it was

b]Exterior:

Process:[/b]

Rinsed.
Wheels cleaned using sonus rim bright, left for a couple of minutes and then rubbed down with a soft and hard brush and pressure washed, x4
tyres rubbed down with a sponge.
Rinsed again.

APC on all polish marks and door sills etc. 2:1 left for a couple of minutes and went over with soft tooth brush.
Rinsed yet again and then snow foamed, left for a couple of minutes and then redid it and washed down using two bucket method, lambs wool and megs gold class.

Dried using megs towel (not so good anymore)

Once most of car was dried i went on to engine bay briefly and clean most of the dirt of it.

Once all that was done i preped the car for wax with klasse AIO on a slightly damp applicator pad and wiped off almost imediately. Put on two panels, taken off one, and so on you get the idea. Once i done a couple of panels i put p21s canuba wax on quite thin. Repeated this process with AIO until i had p21s all over the car. Left this on for a while

During this time i went back to the wheels. quick coat of megs hot tyre spray and rubbed excess off. polished wheels with AG SRP. and then applied two coats of AG EGP. Whilst the EGP cured i went onto the windows with fast glass and newspaper. Removed EGP

Removed P21s. Time for bed

Next day: reapplied P21s to car after i wiped car down with megs quick detailer. left this to cure for 3-4 hours while i reapplied leather car cream. Cleaned wheels with brushed and applied rim wax followed by p21s as i thnk the rim wax is pure crap now.

applied p21s wax to rear 3 windows and B pillar trims.

went for lunch with the girlfriend (keeping her happy - on the home straight now)

When i came back from lunch i rubbed car down to remove wax, removed wax from windows and wheels and fast glass on front 3 windows with newspaper again.

Lastly i polished up exhaust and back box came up quite well and applied another coat of tyre dressing and bumper dressing - sonus bumper and tyre dressing.

really am looking forward to doing a correction on it. Most of its fine but the rear doors and boot lid are annoying me, oh and the rear arches.

Great job. You are very passionate in caring for your rx8. If I did all you did to my car, I'm pretty sure my wife would make me sleep on the sofa at night.

Great job Craig. Just goes to show that with some time, patience, elbow grease and attention to detail you can bring it back from the depths of despair to near-showroom. Now.... don't EVER let it get that bad again! :)
