I've never waxed a car. So i decided to give it a try.
I bought Meguiars Cleaner Wax. It's a paste. I read the "How to apply" part on the back. But it wasn't very thorough. Only had like three lines of instructions. I don't know.

So i was wondering, how long do i let the wax sit, do i wipe it off or wash it off?

I'm planning on waxing my mom's car tomorrow[She's leaving it outside while she uses the other car to go to work for me to wash/wax ] But I don't mind

I tried waxing only the hood about 3 weeks ago. I used circular motions to apply the wax and then I let it settle for maybe 20 minutes then wiped it off using a microfiber cloth. Does the application method matter?[circular,up and down, side-to-side] How long do i let it set?[I did a search and on a Zaino thread I read you let it set for eight hours]. So im guess ing 20 minutes is to little Last, was I right on wiping it off? or do I wash it off/not wash it off and leave it there]?

Yes, as I said I searched before posting. All I could find was product ratings, the "how do I get off this residue". That sorta stuff.

a few searches on waxing will turn up many threads for you to go over.
20 mins is a pretty long time to let the wax sit, check the bottle again.

Circular application is best as it helps ensure uniform coverage. Also, less is more. Don't use too much product. As laythor cites, 20 minutes of wax setup time is longer than necessary. "Remove" the wax with a clean, dry, microfiber towel.

Recommend you select a wax that doesn't leave a white powdery residue, e.g. Meguiar's Nxt Tech wax.

For an every day driver you may want to consider a paint 'sealant' vs. a wax, e.g. Turtle's Ice. Very easy to apply, even over plastic/rubberoid.

And between waxings a detailing spray does wonders.

I do have to +1 this. I just recently tried turtle wax ice over meguiars nxt and it looks just as good, gets done in 1/2 the time, and the pasty stuff from meguiars won't get on the plastic and in odd spots when using turtle ice.

Meguiars NXT Tech Wax is the ****! By far the best for the money. I do use Turtle Wax Ice detailer spray in between wax though and it is some good stuff. But as for was turtle wax ice wax just doesnt cut it for me. I might try some NXT detailer spray next time because of how impressed I am with their wax! It is incredibly easy to use by the way to I am only 18 and never waxed a car before in my life and it was incredibly easy to use.

Meguiars cherry wax is also a really good wax... temperature has a lot to do with how long it should sit. Very bad idea to do it in the heat, make sure it's completely dry or its gonna leave streaks and look terrible. Good luck!

never ever EVER wash a hot car or wash a car in direct sunlight (at least one you care about), the temperature shock will eventually make your clearcoat crackle and start flaking off.

I've used a few, mother's pure carnauba is very nice and gives a very rich shine on reds, I've been using turtle ice wax on the 8 tho, I think it looks pretty good and it doesn't leave white residue on black plastics, nothing ruins a good detailing job more than white all over your black parts.
