how do i go about removing this salt build up?
 

it seems to be pretty caked on

i was vacumning the car and this wouldn't come off

What about using a carpet steamer? They come with upholstery attachments that work great for the seats (if cloth!) and carpeted floors in a car... I used mine for coffee stains in my old car (thank goodness nothing yet in the 8..!) :fingersx:

I really shoulda taken before and after pics, and I did read this thread prior to cleaning my carpets, but alas, I did not, so you will have to traust my word for it;)

But, the salt came out of my carpets with ease with:

A bucket of hot water,
Mild dish soap,
A plastic hard-bristled brush,
Light to medium scrubbing.

That did it:)

The salt use here in Toronto is just as liberal as up there in Ottawa, and my carpets looked eerily similar to your pics above.

Came out great IMO!
