How to clean dirty hand prints on headliner?
I have no idea how they got there, but I have several spots on my headliner that appears to be hand prints. I KNOW I didn't put them there, so my only thought was maybe it was my window tinting guy. Regardless, I have two spots in the back and one on an a-pillar. Anyone have any ideas as to the best way to scrub them out? Should I just try a sponge with soap and water? I don't want to spread it and make it worse yet.

sex is difficult in the 8 - not surprising you have prints on the roof .
Try some dishwashing detergent and a wet rag . |
Damn it! I can't believe someone busted me first post up!

my mom used to use 409 on carpet... give that a try?

Thanks. What did you end up using? Your results?

I used Simple Green, I sprayed it on the headliner, let it sit for about 10 mins, and I wiped it off. :)

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser does an awesome job. I should have taken before/after when I did mine.
|
I touched it up lightly using acetone.

soap and water does the trick, if its greasy type stain use something else if not you'll just rub it in deeper.

My friend left nasty handprints on my headliner. He was a mechanic and swore by something called "Dry Clean". Then we tried GriotsGarage.com Inerior Ceaner at a detailing party. Worked amazing, we both bought bottles. Works on everything, including fabric, vinyls, plastics.

Meguiars makes an upholstery cleaner. I used it on the headliner after the dealership replaced my sunroof; worked GREAT!!

I use a product originally make for carpet stain removal. It's called Bissel Oxy Kic. It sprays on and wipes away leaving a pretty dry spot. I've used in car for getting the smell and stain of vomit out of my back seat (thanks drunk friend) and to get stains out of the headliner.
Works very well for all kinds of stains, organic and petroleum. Amazing how it doesn't push around grease or oil. Good stuff and you can easily pick it up at Home Depot, Sears, Target... http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg |
Tuff-Stuff works great
I used Tuff-Stuff on mine after one of the mechanics left 2 huge finger/palm prints on the headliner around the sunvisors on both sides. And it does not leave any residue that you can see later.
It can be found in most auto parts stores... and Walmart..:) |
That Oxy stuff looks likwe it would work great!

bump ...
I'm scared to put any liquid on my headliner with it now being 13 years old. But I have some dirt and smudge marks on it after all that time now. The last thing I want is for the fabric to be falling loose from the liner backing material. :uhh: Just seeing if there are any other suggestions? :dunno: |
I think Sonic or someone posted a Jalopnik review of the Jay Leno cleaning products. They seem like they'd be geared toward what you're looking at re:cleaning older cars. Not specifically for the headliner, but it might be a place to start. I haven't tried them myself, so no real world advice for you.

I'm new to the site & don't know how it all works. I got a 2009 Rx8 last fall & joined the site last month. I wanted to get some info/advice & tried to start a "thread". I got this message:

My apologies for misusing the "reply" feature to ask for help but I can't find any other way to contact anyone. With regard to your question, I don't know how to clean the headliner but last year I had my Infiniti G35 detailed and the couple of marks on the headliner disappeared, so it's doable. So, if all else fails you can always grab a six pack, go down to your local detail shop & see what they say. Any help out there will be much appreciated. Thanks, MM |
