Help! - Somebody drew on my 8 with permanent marker!

Man, am I ticked! Some a#$hole decided it would be cool to draw on my two month old RX-8 with a black permanent marker. They drew lines down the entire driver's side and on the hood. Anybody have any miracle tips for getting this off??

Christ! I cannot believe there are individuals that would do that... I feel your anger.

I know it works on a dry erase board but have never tried it on a car. If you get some person that rights in the wrong type of marker on a dry erase board all you do is use a regular marker over top of where the permenant marker was written and then use a dry eraser to erase it off.

This may take it off or may make it worse since I have never tried it before. If you do try it I would put it in one little spot just to test it before doing the whole thing. Hope this helps :(

claybar should take it off, follow the standard claybar procedure

you can also try a wax cleaner type product

Goof-Off or similar solvent-based graffitti cleaner

last, there is a solvent called MEK, kind of hard to find anywhere but a paint store, you have to wear rubber gloves and have lots of ventilation, bad stuff, don't press down hard, wipe lightly,

rewax when you're done using any of the above

Use "Goof-Off". It will remove it.
3M Adhesive Remover will work, also.
Immediately use a polish and then wax on the affected parts after cleaning with these solvents.

better than a scratch. let us know how well it came off.

Air Force RX8 05-15-2005 11:50 AM

^^exactly what I thought!! If all else fails mineral spirits will work and will not harm the paint.

Slims8 05-15-2005 12:37 PM

Yeah, adhesive remover doesn't work on key marks

That sucks..k can't belivee people do that kind of crap..i am so sorry

Huhwha 05-15-2005 04:47 PM

I used paste silver polish and it came right off a dry erase board. FWIW

use a red permanent marker and color the black lines to match your car.

hahaha just kidding. Try the "magic eraser," that thing works wonders so I am guessing it may help.

Happened to have some Goof-Off wipes laying around the house, so I took my first crack at the marker lines using them...worked like a charm! I'm back to a nice shiny velocity red without black marker racing stripes.

Now if I could just get my hands on the idiots who marked it up in the first place...then I'd be REALLY happy!

Thanks to all for your concern and suggestions!

menace1227 05-16-2005 03:02 PM

when you do catch them. tie them up and put racing stripes on them like what they did to your car.

I know for a fact lighter fluid will take off that marker (it takes of sharpie). I'm not sure if it will damage the paint though. Might be worth a shot to test it first inside the door jam near where the catch is for the door so it's not visible.

Another dry erase board trick to remove permanent marker is to wipe with a cloth soaked with stale coffee. Might work on the car also.

Doesn't show in the thumbnails. You need to click on them to get the full sized image.

And thankfully, I already got the marker off with the help of the fellow forum members! :D
