FL Help! Car invaded by spiders!

So. I clean my car once every week or 2. and its sits outside all day every day. My home parking lot is pretty devoid of plant life, there are small bushes and thats it within 50 feet. At work there are just minor strips of grass between the rows of spaces.

Every once in a while, getting to and into my car, i would notice the sun reflect off my hood and fenders, and i would see what i first thought were swirl marks, because i have some small ones... it happens. But i had noticed some bigger ones that i dont always see. One day i looked really close and noticed that the scratch actually bridges the gap between the hood bump in mid air. WTF? i thought. And when i used my fingers, i could lift them off. SPIDERWEBS!. I have no idea where the bastard spiders are, but this has been occuring on and off for over 2 months now. I have no idea how they survive... but they are. How do i find and kill them?

And on another note. I went to Sebring raceway to do a PDX, and when i opened my hood to add oil, I noticed a big green frog just chillin on the drivers side rearmost corner of under the hood. I went to grab him and he backed up under the plastic that houses the windshield wiper bits. I didnt have time so I went and did the day with him in there anyway. He had to have made the entire trip with me, no idea how he got in there in the first place... but the main problem is that he is NOT EATING THE SPIDERS!!

I'm going to show this thread to someone at work on Monday!

There are three cars allowed to park in OUR row...........my 8, a 6, and an MX5. We have this same discussion down in Palm Bay where I work! WTF?
Have you seen the little bastards. They are actually very small, but my god, they build that **** fast! I kid you not! It's amazing!

The car will be covered in less than 9 hours. We are all shades of gray or silver and I thought it was that, but now I know different!

Welcome to hell!

Oh, we have no trees around either! We actually kidded when leaving Friday that we were gonna raid our cars thise weekend. I kid you not......while we won't do it of course..............we did talk about getting the little f*&(ers.

You first think they are swirl marks like Paul says........and then you realize it's the damn spiders. They either have to be blown by the wind, or climb up the tires. It's weird and pisses me off! I was hoping our recent below 32 degrees would get the little *****...............but alas.....it did not. They are very tiny, but pit out massive amounts of silk for how big they are.

We are not talking a few strands here. Friday, the total on my car over one hundred strands. The hood, the top, the trunk, the spoiler and run from one side of the car to the other. Also have them on the bumpers, back quarter panels, side views and windows. It's almost like they are building a cocoon.....if the were catapillers, I'd really be worried!
I haven't found any inside yet...........have you?
My current theory is that they are looking for warmth.

I get this at my parking lot too, and only with this car (civic, no webs). My theory is that spiders are attracted to shiny bright things, because their prey is also attracted to shiny bright things, and hey, they gotta eat.

Stop washing your car for a few months and I bet the spider problem will stop

crazy! i would be concerned with a nest/eggsac getting started in the car if it was mine. personally, i would strip the interior and tear the dash and center console down then cover what needs to be protected and fumigate followed by an extremely thorough detail job. but i am also flipped out by spiders..

in HI i always detailed and waxed my car at night... like 10PM through 2 to 4AM. I noticed there that whenever i was waxing as i finished sections, there were these gnats things that flocked to the freshly waxed areas....

I've gotten a spider behind my side view mirrors before. Never anywhere else though.

I hate those gnats. They land on my car in the morning when i go into work. Then die there.
I'm the only guy in the parking lot with a pile of dead gnats on his car. Luckily they blow away while driving but still.

yeah i dunno... i mean i can blow em off with a wave of a rag, but if they land there and sit during the day the bake and die there... i just hate bugs.

Dude!!!! same here. im begining to think its either the wax or quick detailer that attracts them cause of the smell.

I haven't waxed or quick detailed since Halloween, so I doubt thats it.
If its the price I gotta pay, I'd still take mid 70 degree weather over what the north is going through.
Other people have noticed the webs.
I have not seen anything inside the car at all.
I did see one little tiny tiny bugs on my hood as i was going out last night, no larger than the tip of a pencil. flicked it right off.

It's the lack of trees and objects around your car that are bringing the spiders to you. Lots of spiders will "fly" away after being hatched by deploying a fine web of silk and being carried away on the breeze. Since the only thing there to hit are your cars, voila, instant spider-disneyland .

One time, a spider 'surprised me' by hanging down from my mirror.

I almost crashed as I was swinging my rise against cd case at this stupid spider.

I have a huge arachnaphobia (if I spelled that right)
