It happened so soon :( *w/Pics*

Only 2 weeks in and i've noticed I have a gouge, 3 paint chips (small) and a nice long scratch. I knew it was going to happen but wow I thought it would hold up a bit better to start.

So what can I do to repair or minimize the damage?

XDEEDUBBX 06-25-2007 11:21 AM

can't realy do anything about it..repaint.

Jedi54 06-25-2007 12:42 PM

ouch, that sucks. The chips are tough to deal with, not much you can do there...
As for the scratch, how deep is it? Maybe some carnuba wax can help cover it up?

Detrich 06-25-2007 01:08 PM

does your fingernail catch in those scratches? if not, u might be able to reduce the visibility by polishing with a porter cable and some clearcoat polishing wax.

Such is the life of a car. Yea, it sucks.

Repaint is about it unless you can find some one who is good with touch ups.

PatInTheHat 06-26-2007 10:25 AM

I don't have any kind of bra, 3M etc. Although it doesn't appear this would have helped me unless I did almost the entire hood :(

Do you do a lot of freeway driving? Stay away from the trucks. It happens to the best of us, especially if it is your daily driver. The paint chip adds character but if it really bothers you get some touch up paint at the dealership, but I would just leave it alone. Try rubbing in some Meguiars Scratch-X for the scratch andive it a good waxing. It'll shine so nice you won't even think about the tiny blemish.

My sympathies....

I don't think anyone asked this yet . . . .

Do you wax your car regularly? We drive around in Vegas as a DD and we don't get rock chips . . . . we wax the car once every 2 weeks and it seems to keep us scratch free.

PatInTheHat 06-27-2007 01:13 AM

I haven't waxed it yet so im not sure if that will help.

The roads here in Edmonton seem especially sucky this year. Bits of rock and gravel everywhere and semis and trucks on every road. Frustrating.

apex_sideway 06-27-2007 01:18 AM

I'm saying that wax acts as a protectant to PREVENT chips. I don't think that putting wax on now will repair the damage :(

Just start waxing the car to prevent any more damage.

www.langka.com

Works pretty well. You'll also need to buy touchup paint in your car color from your dealer (about $6.50).

Try this site for the Venture Tape VentureShield invisible bra. They have a couple of "patterns" for the RX-8. You can locate a dealer/installer by state if you click on the Dealer/Distributer Locater link at the top right.

if you can run your fingernail over it and feel it catch, it needs repainting or wet sanding...if you can barely feel it it can be buffed out... you will need a polisher such as the Porter Cable 7424. I have it and have done some incredible stuff with my car and others.

go to www.autogeek.net and look at the pinnacle XMT series... they have polishes and stuff to minimize the appearance.... I'd try the XMT 360.... good luck
