Fix for my door panels
 

For about 2 months or so my door panels on the arm rest and the handle seem to be very dull and appear to be blotchy.

I have always used Meguiars Vinyl and Rubber protectant.

I just switched to Aerospace 303 to see if this clears the issue up.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Unfortunately I think they are fucked and I may have to buy new panes which sucks cause this is the only spot where this is happening and I take great care of my car.

truthfully from the picture it just looks like something may have rubbed up against it or someone had something on their hands and it was left on you door...

Does anyone know a for sure way to fix this? I have it happening on both door panels and part of the dash. I used Ultima interior shampoo followed by Aerospace 303 and it did make it look a lot better, but it didn't completely go away. What would be the best product to use for the dash and door panels besides what I am currently using? Thanks.

Looks like a good interior cleaner would fix that up and a vinyl treatment after that. Looks to be just a dirt/oil build up.

And what would you suggest?

I did remember seeing some stuff for black vinyl that was a kit for redying / polishing but I dont know if I should try that?

I have used Mequiar's rubber and vinyl clear / condition, Turtle Wax SP20, and now Aerospace 303.

I only applied 303 to one panel to see how it is holding up. Looks to be doing better since I tried that but not completely away. Before I applied the 303 I took a soft bristle tooth brush and water and gave it a light scrub as well.

I think the reason the 303 makes it look better is because it acts like it is masking up the spot. If you look closely, it is still there.

have you tried back to black?

I use back to black on the door panels and it works alright. My panels have a few spots where it's pretty white now i guess from the 1st owner's feet hitting it or w/e, but back to black, 303 aerospace, and armor all natural finish detailer don't get it out. suxxxxx

there are different 303 products, but the one most people have is a protectant. it has no real cleaning properties or restorative ones either. its just a UV protectant, a damn good one.

What about 303 fabric and vinyl cleaner?

So what will actually fix this? I am starting to get it on the steering wheel and the dash. I really want this to go away because it looks like shit.

IF you keep adding protectant, it just seals in it more and more. You need to actually clean it, sometimes warm soapy water works wonders. Baby oil is another alternative, but I just keep my clean with nothing else on it. Mine is still perfect, no spots. I dont think anything will fix it, just hide it honestly.

Dude, just clean it with dawn and re-apply a good protectant. You will be good to go.

Yeah I know. I cleaned it with plain water then used ultima interior shampoo, followed by 303 protectant. It partially covered it, but now the spots are back.

Won't dawn ruin the sheen of the plastic?

No, dawn wont hurt the plastic at all. I have done it personally hundreds of times. Try cleaning it and give it a couple days without protectant...see it the spots return.

Just take a warm bucket of water, just a little dawn to make the water sudsy and wipe it down, then rinse with clean water.

I have been researching and most detailing websites say specifically to not use stuff like dawn. What is another alternative, if there is one? I want a for sure way to fix this because I would like to tackle the problem tomorrow. Thanks.

carwash soap, etc. works also. Dove soap is probably the safest of any of them.

I'm tellin ya, you guys are thinking too much....I use dawn on no less than 30 cars...my shit doesnt have blotches. You are using high dollar super stuff, and you are having issues....do the math. I used it on the rx8 specifically. Test on back panel where you cant see it, or in the trunk if you wanna make sure it doesnt melt away or something.

Ok I clean the interior plastics with dawn then applied 303. It looks better, but I couldn't tell since it was dark in the garage. I will let you guys know later.
