is it ever too late to wax?
 

is it alright to still wax a car even if its like a few months old and has like.. chips and dirt marks? i have a few tiny chips... can i still wax over it? and also under the sides theres like dirt spots that is really hard to get off.. i tried goo off or w/e its called... works a bit.. can i use simple green? is it the same thing? :confused:

It's never good to put wax over dirt :D. I suggest you get a clay of some sort to remove some of the raised blemishes from the paint such as dirt and such. Then give it a good wash after using the clay and then you can apply wax. It's not TOO LATE to wax... but it might not come out as good as it may have had you done it sooner. The wax acts as a protectant for the paint so all of the time that you have not had wax on the paint, it's more likely to get damaged.

its never too late for wax. just make sure you prep the surface before you wax (clay, polish, and paint cleaner).

Are suggesting to clay first before wash? Claying over a dirty car would do more damage than good. I would say, to wash your car thouroughly to remove loose dirt and then clay. You can wash the car again but not necessary. You can just qd the whole car to remove residues from claying and go on and proceed to polish your car. Polishing or compounding you're car will remove defects such as swirl and light scratches and will also improve the gloss of your paint. Then you can seal it with you're favorite wax. This will take some time depending on the condition of your car. After this routine, all you really need to do is proper maintanance. Wax you're car every month or so and light polishing ever 6 months will keep your car looking good for a long time. Hope this helps.

1. Wash the car with dawn soap and a microfiber towel
2. Dry with a clean microfiber towel
3. Use a clay bar (clay magik is good) and follow the instructions closely. Important that you keep the car lubed with the supplied lubrication .
4. After you are done, wash with dawn again.
5. Apply the polish or wax of your choice (I'd go with Zaino if I were you. But NXT would be my next choice)

3. If you don't want to waste all of the lube, you can always use a small bucket of dishwashing soap and water. This works just as good as using the lube it comes with, and cheaper too...

5. Zaino is good shit! But NXT tech wax is just as good. Use a microfiber towel to remove and polish the wax.

I would first wash the car with a dish soap to help remove any dirt clinging to the paint. Dry the car with a microfiber towel (waffle weave) if you have. Next, clay the car (I use Meguiars Quick Clay - Target KMart etc) using the spray that comes with it or you can use a soap-water solution. Then wash the car once more with a car wash soap (Meguiars, or something of this nature is okay -- stay away from the cheap-o brands such as Blue Coral). Next you can apply wax. I have used Meguiars NXT along with S100 Carnauba and it looks great. There are other products available if you want to spend extra money. If you are interested pm me and I can give you some tips on good products.

by paintcleaner i meant someting like Klasse all-in-one (THE SHIZNIT!) or megs #80 which has tiny bit of polish in it. i meant clay bar when i said clay. lol

hmm good advice in this thread..i too haven't waxed my car in a while (i do wash it and got to a brushless car wash that applies wax to the car)..but the last tiem i personaly waxed my car was when i was in GA..in 04 :(

Be carefull the "brushless car washes" can blast away paint from the surface of the car.

My sister has had her 350z since november, 2003 and i just waxed it for her about a month ago for the first time.

after clay barring and all the other mess......it turned out great.

can someone explain clay bar in short... so say i have a paint chip... i prally want to use touch up paint then clay bar? or liek a scratch that left a groove is that when you use a clay bar? im confussed....
