Damn Cats!Any Cleaning Pointers from other Black Rx8 Owners

I just got my car last week and ive washed it about two times, (basically whenever i get the chance) and evertime I finish washing it, i realize that its never "perfectly" clean, jus wondering if anyone here who owns a Black Rx8, could maybe give me some pointers in making it look Perfectly clean, i didnt realize that Black needs a lot more attention and cleaning than most. ALSO, my neighbors & my Girlfriends neigbors have cats (Bad Combination :( ). Well we went out for dinner and i dropped my car off in her garage w/ the garage Closed.......well as soon as we get back i notice the gargage is open...WITH a Cat laying on top of my car, I was like Oh NO this Moth**** didnt it  well it turns out her dad "Forgot' to close the garage when he got home, man I was so pissed off at her Dad, that old fart knows there are Literally about 15 cats around her house. I washed it today and i notice these long scratches on the hood of my car, is there anything i could do about these scratches (theyre not very noticable unless when you look very closely but its killing me knowing that theyre there) Any help would be appreciated, THanks.

a good medium cut polish used w/ a buffer will get em out if it isnt down to the bare metal. then give it a good wax job to protect the paint better, on my black miata(same paint as the 8) i would wax it as often as 3-4 weeks at the most, and buy a few microfiber rags, they're really helpful for just about anything, go the Griots Garage, they have everything u need.

for my black rx8, i think i really clean it very well every week. after everytime i wash it, i just go on ragging the car with strong papar towel. with the papar towels, i wipe every inch of it. then i take a blower to blow off all white dusts. after that i get on a 120 km drive. then i wax it.

by the way, i use Mother's Wax which is just wax but great shine.

Dry Wash

I have three black cars. The RX8, and Mercedes SL600 and a Ford Custom Van.

The only thing I use on them is Dry Car Wash.

It is a special method "No Water" You pray a little on wipe it in all the dirt comes of on the cloth and it leaves a slight haze like wax. After a few minutes I wipe it off and the car is spotless and so slick that not even water or dust will stick to it . I only need to dust it off from time to time.

The also have special cleaner for tire and chrome. I most likely will never use water or wax on may cars again.

Go to http://www.dwgint.com/ for your own dry wash. You will not regret it.

Oh one note. Many who are new to the dry wash think you have to use a lot or get it real wet. Just pry a light film where you are wiping like wax and only add a little more as you move to each area.

One bottle last almost 6 washings for each of the cars, or between 6 and 12 for one depending on how big the car is.

Zaino will make those cat paw marks disappear by just wiping the car down with a microfiber cloth between Zaino coats...I have 3 cats myself, and many in the neighborhood...I know the woes of paw prints all too well :) It's either that, or invest in a good cover...may be a pain to cover it and uncover it day after day, but I've gotten used to it...both of my cars (8 and GTO) stay under cover every time they're standing still in front of the house. The GTO has over 12k miles on it and it still looks better than it did in the showroom.....and I'm not easy on her when I drive it (it sees rainy driving regularly, and went throught the worst winter storm driving from St. Louis to the East Coast this past winter). Anyone living in Indiana can attest to how horrible I 64 was in December :(.

Bottom line, cover it and use a GOOD wax or polish, even if you don't want to use Zaino. ;)

Cat pelts do a bang-up job.

shinka213 08-16-2005 08:19 PM

Ive got this stuff from Meguiares in a tube thats supposed to remove scratches....it did a bang up job on my sons car when it got scratched real bad from a taxi's hubcap...the hubcap decided to leave the taxi when it was moving at a high rate of speed....of course my son was right behing it.....left front fender got quite a few scratches.....now all's well with the world :D

TrochoidMagic 02-09-2010 08:52 PM

thought nothing about the few scratches alongside my fenders. but now, after a dozen or two appeared faintly over my fenders, hood, and door, i've come to the conclusion that cats are entering my garage during these rainy days and having a scratchfest.

it doen't end there, as my seat have some odd cut lines on them. must've been when i leave my windows down...

so i've just picked up a rodent trap from harbor freight, catfood and catnip to catch those suckers.

while others have gave suggestions such as cayenne pepper powder, and other deterrents. i rather get rid of them than simply deterr them as they literally have noticeable damage upon a few visits.

the neighbors i have have such filthy habits of feeding them and keeping them around.

just thought i share the route i'm taking for those with cats that causes problems.

I prefer to wash them in the machine and then in the dryer.

After that they will sit still and hardly ever move.

Find a new GF.

This is the begining of the end of your RX8

Actually after owning 11 black cars, I think that black is one of the toughest to maintain. It attracts all sorts of animals (especially geese), :cussing: and shows the slightest speck of dust.
Brilliant Black is the softest black paint finish I have ever encountered, easy to scratch as well as showing dents and handprints.
I dry wash quite a bit as well. No issues.
