To clearcoat or to not clearcoat

I hope this issue hasn't been recently discussed. I tried a forum search but didn't get any hits.

I'm taking delivery of my new 8 next week and of course the dealer tried to sell me a paint sealer.

I have always been skeptical about this stuff and think it is just a money making scam for the dealer.

I'm pretty good about keeping my cars clean and properly waxed.

Does anyone have an opinion about the subject?

It's a good way to give your dealer more money.

That's the one where they explain to you how crappy the paint is on the brand new car you just bought so you better pony up for this magic stuff...?

You didn't fall for the "lusterizing" leather treatment did you? Tell the dealer you heard that the muffler bearings were bad on these new 8's and you want the upgrades. They'll hook you up.
