can you overwax?

can you overwax a car?

is it wrong to add more layers and buff and will it make a difference?

should i be treating this car like my pair of jump boots?

thanks in advance!

Yes, best way to protect and shine is apply sealant first then carnauba wax.

Winning 8 05-05-2006 12:41 AM

where to get the sealant??

yiksing 05-05-2006 01:06 AM

I think most popular brands have it, its supposed to be synthetic, protects better than carnauba wax but doesn't shine as much. That's the reason for applying the second layer of carnauba if you wanna very deep and wet look. I myself have no access to any of this, you should check out what they recommend at autopia.org

you can add as many layers of wax as you want, but if you wanna keep your car sparkling shiny then you'll need to polish it as well every month or couple of months.

Are you crazy?, polish every month and you will lose your clear coat in no time unless you mean waxing when you say polish.

NgoRX8 05-05-2006 03:19 AM

umm... non abrasive polish...

thanks, that's useful! :)

from your link:
"POLISH: A polish is normally a non-abrasive product based on a nutrient oil matrix and may or may not have a chemical cleaner as part of the package. Most polishes use fillers to help cover swirl marks."

yes that works... fillers

yiksing 05-05-2006 10:53 AM

In the detailing world, if polish is used as a noun, most of the time the detailers meant buffing with a machine and an abrasive product. So they use "waxing" as in applying non-abrasive products. From the link its a noun thus there's always confusion between polish and wax. You should check out autopia.org too, they have the Meguaire's video there too I learnt a lot about detailing there recently.

I use wolfgang sealant without wax... the wax really only shines for about an hour or so until it attracts dust. Sealant wont attract dust.
