Burnt spots on White paint
 

Hey guys, I discovered some burnt spots on the paint after washing my car today. I am not sure how to remove those little spots all over the paint. I believe its caused by break dust when its hot? the burnt marks are like 1mm in diameter, very tiny. I tried claybar and even rub really hard with the microfibre towel. Do you guys have any experience with this? or its 'burnt' into the paint and cant be removed? Any help would be appreciated, thnx

sorry, ill try to get the pics today, its like tiny orange spots over the side of the car, doors, bumper... and more concentrated on the front doors, close to the front brakes... hence why i think its caused by hot falling brake dust....

The particles in brake dust would be too small to have enough thermal energy to damage your paint. It's possible that its a bit of rust from the rotors that has been brushed off by the brake pads.

It could also be something on the road surface being kicked up by the tires. You didn't run over Garfield, did you? :eek: Road tar can also have an orangish/brown tint. Try some tar remover or WD-40 and see if that's it. If not, try again with the claybar then move to a mild abrasive like Scratch-X, but be gentle.

did you get the car new or used?

Its new, a year old, yeah thnx for the reply blue87sport, although i am guessing its caused by brake dust, but its removable, just very very hard........ i actually removed one with my finger nail.... yeah i know its bad, but was just trying to see if its burnt into the paint or something thats stuck on it. I'll def try some WD-40 and claybar again. Thanks guys.

I paint alot of cars and I have never seen THAT! More likely what you are seeing is actually tar from the road. Do not use wd-40!!!!!!!!!! I can remove your paint! Try an all pourpose tar or grease remover. Laquer thinner works great but be very, very ,very careful if you do.. I mean do not let it sit for too long!!! Never heard of burnt brake dust?

arg, i lost my memory card for my digicam, gonna buy that over the weekend, will take some pics........ thanks for the advice.. this is just weird, i wanna solve this before I zaino it haha, dont want imperfections after long hours of zaino!

I had a few "orangeish" spots on my car. I had to use a clay bar to get them off, I used mothers detail spray and they came off. I figured they were some sort of metal from shipping the car over to the US.

thats oxidation, very typical with white cars. Clay bar can easily remove, make sure you get a coat of wax on it after you clay bar.

Okay... i took the car back to dealership, the service manager said its caused by acid rain... Its possible, but I dont really believe him, he referred me to an auto body shop, and fix it at my own expense....

o well, this isnt a big concern. I zaino-ed my car and now it looks GREAT, and the orange spots cannot be removed by claybarring, however if i strach it HARD with my fingernails, it'll come off, but i aint gonna do that, its not noticable from a feet away, so ill forget it and enjoy my zaino shine woot!

One mistake I made was I didnt claybar the car, i opened the claybar and used it on the orange spots, wouldnt come off even if i rub it hard lol.... so i got frustrated and skipped the claying... i can feel some imperfection after Zaino on my hood, but its very minor and overall its SMOOTH AS SILK, Zaino is the best! It wont outshine the other wax on the market by a lot, but it OUTLASTS them, thats wat important and makes Zaino so special.

either someone that doesnt know how to use a buffing burnt your paint, its contamination, or its fall out. if its really burnt by a buffer than youre screwed.. if its contaminiation or fall out then you hsould be able to remove it with clay bar and proper polishing... and dont take the car in for a polish or w/e wax at the dealership because they just want money. they dont care if they scratch your car. they just want things to be done ASAP.

Hey thanks for the advice, and no i never planned on letting them polish or wax it, i took it in for service and just asked them to look at it. Its behind the front wheels on the bottom part of front doors.

The service guy at the desk was pretty nice to me, he told me he saw these on a couple of white cars as well, but he has no say, the service manager came out and referred me to this body shop place. (obvisouly they'll try to get away with it, well i wont pursue further, coz its very minor to me, and its a double loss situation if they have to repaint my car anyways.)

P.S. this dealership i go to is pretty good, they always wash my car after, but this time after i Zainoed it i put a sticky on the steering wheel told them not to wash my car =D hehe,

If you can peel it off with your finger nail it has to be tar or other road grime.

This is fallout, it is very very fine pieces of metal in the air. They land on the car and oxidize, it happens with all cars. You see it more on white however. I have a white water pearl car and it has the same problem. Its inevitable. You can clay bar it and try to get most of it off (which it should) however if that doesnt work, a good buff should get most of it off.

Make it a routine, I try and do mine atleast 3-4 times a year.
