Bird Poop/Tree Sap
So when a bird or birds go crap on your car or you get little drops of tree sap on it, what do you do?
Do you do a complete wash of your car? Do you just get a sponge and water and clean out the parts that were hit? Do you use something else? I'm wondering because recently my car got turded on really badly. I've heard how bad it was for the paint so I cleaned it off using paper towels and water, but it's a really slow process especially with the sheer volume of crap that was on my car (it was REALLY bad). I didn't have time to give the car a real wash either since it was already night time. So what do you do? Are there any cleaning supplies purely made for cleaning off bird crap and tree sap? I try my best to avoid parking under trees and the like but if I'm going to be late, I take any spot I can (and the parking lot is usually pretty full). |
do you get 'bombarded' as you described everyday? I purpose park in spots w/o any trees to avoid these thing.
if you get it as bad as you describe, maybe it's easier just to take it a 'touchless' auto car wash for a quick rinse rather than take care of it one at a time. But regardless what you do, you should always clean up th mess immediately, DO NOT let it bake under the sun! it'll stain the paint! |
lol @ "the sheer volume of crap that was on my car ." A touchless car wash is a good idea but if this happens a lot it could get expensive. People recommend buying a detail spray to remove the stuff. For the harder stuff use a clay bar. And zoomzoom is right it get off asap.

Nah I don't get hit every day. I just get bombarded sometimes when I part under a tree (which is as rare as I can make it). The problem is the parking lot is relatively small so I'm not even guaranteed a parking spot so if one opens under a tree it's either take that or risk spending another 10+ minutes trying to find parking somewhere not under a tree.
In the past 2 months I've gotten hit twice. Once was like about 40 errr "bombs" and the other time about 20. And let me tell you some of those birds must've hit up an all you can eat buffet. It sucks because I really didn't want to park there but I had no choice. Both times I wanted to just wash the car afterwards, but I don't particularly want to wash it late at night and I don't know of any touchless car washes near by. I'm afraid that it does bake somewhat though since the car's outside while I'm at work and I won't know if it got hit until much later. I do my best to take it off that night at worst though. So other than doing a full car wash (either by self or by business) I guess it's detailing spray? Does it work well? Because the last time some of it was pretty tough to take off already. :-/ I'd hope the wash or the detail spray would take off enough to not need to use a clay bar. |
if the bombs are very 'severe' (ie you can see what the bird ate for lunch  ) use A LOT of water to wash off the large chunks before finishing off with detailer spray, you don't want the doodoos to scratch the paint as you wipe it off!

All birds are vindictive little chits. I have a lease car due back to bank in Feb. Washed it, wanted to put a quick cheap wax on the hood and top. The few minutes it took to apply to hood was enough to allow the little pricks to bomb it about 6 times. Looked up at the top of tree by my drive-way, there sat about 20 of the little suckers and for good measure one dumped on my jacket. Have to cut that tree down:)

My dealer sold me this package that protects me from any exterior discoloration from such incidents. They'll repaint and buff it up if necessary. Also the interior leather is included in the package against spills and stuff. I paid like $900 for it. Do you think I got ripped off?

^probably, a good detailer would be able to do the protective coating and the interior protection for a few hundred, definitely lower than 900

Two words
CLAY BAR got the sap off my car; while multiple washes would not |
