Anyone used Dr. ColorChip?

Well, I'm looking to repair my stone chips. I'm reading around, trying to decide whether I should have it done professionally or whether I should do it myself.

I came across Dr. ColorChip which seems to work well and is not that expensive.

Any thoughts?

do you have a website for Mr. ColorChip?

falcon 06-21-2006 06:28 AM

Stupid me, it Dr.ColorChip and not Mr.

Anyway, the website is http://drcolorchip.com/ . Looks like a pretty good system that is easy to use as well. I called them yesterday to inquire if the chemical, the second step, will harm the clear coat. I was told that it is totally safe.

Will probably get it. I have touched up three of my four stone chips but it came out like crap. I want to try and tape the area and sand the blob down and bit. It could be that the touch up paint will be fine once I sand it down and it becomes smoother.

seems unbelievable... why dont you try it out and tell us? :)

First, I want to sand down my existing touch up attempts and see how that looks. If I'm still not happy then I'll be the first one to try Dr.ColorChip - why not.

Well, stupid me, I'm ready to shoot myself. As posted above, I went to sand the blobs down a bit with a 1500 grit paper. Needless to say, on top of my stone chips and crappy repair I have a whitish line in the clearcoat from sandpaper. First, I have tried taping around - the problem, the tape raises the work area a bit and you can't sand it down a lot. If I had put the sandpaper on a block, maybe I would've been more careful. I had it folded, then around my finger - not a perfect application.

I have used one of those compounds that they use at Chrysler to remove scratches at the assemply level. Maybe I didn't rub long/hard enough as it didn't seem to help.

Will probably order Mr.ColorChip and try it next. The problem, that my chips are filled in already. When I come back from my vacation, I will be looking into clear bra - probably just the hood, fenders, and side mirrors.

I've heard that people do headlights too.

I don't think you should expect a response from him.

You never know, but thanks for your input!

This is the same technique, works really well, and it's very easy... http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...16&postcount=7

Actually, I've used this on my old White 2006 Civic Si to fix a couple of paint chips that I got from some kids that egged my car.

I have to say it worked amazing well. I took a couple applications of it, but it worked well and took less than an hour, from start to finish.
