What Tires Are You Running This Season?
1 Attachment(s)
I loved the first generation star specs so I figured I'd give the 2nd generation ones a try this autocross season. For the price, it's hard to beat them.
So these will be my autocross tires, just drive to and from event on them - maybe the occasional daily drive, in the local autocross club's street tire classes (140 tread wear or higher). |
BFG R1-S In my opinion these are the highest performing DOT rated tire available.

Hankook RS-3 take offs. Should have enough left to get me through the abbreviated season I'm running.
|
Kumho XS for the second season. Might be switching to something else next season when these are toast.

You need to be more specific about who are you asking with regard to a specific class/series. There are a wide variety of sanctioning organizations, series, and classes yet your question is not structured and open to wide interpretation.

BFG KDW's.

Never mind then, i thought you were attempting to start a purposeful thread rather than just being aimlessly chatty

Hehe, well I still the stock dunlops on original wheels for dd, plus a set of new z2s on 17in rpf1s for autox / track. I'm mostly aiming for a fun to drive track car within the STX rules just in case I decide to try running that at some point.

anyone running re-11's? ran them last season and omg they were great thinking of the re-11a's this year

It's not necessarily aimless - this way people share what tires they are using and what they are using them for (autocross/track/dd/various classes/etc). Since tire options do change with time it can be helpful to see what others who are doing the same sort of racing/applications have been using/do use, and share opinions on the options that are out there.

nt01s for rx8 on track. star specs for chump car. rs-a's for burnouts.
|
Running Hoosier 18" racing slicks R80's. Plus picked up a set of used Pirelli's PZero racing slicks to try, actually 2 ended up being new. I've been looking for a less expensive option than the Hoosier's, I believe the used Pirelli's are coming from the Ferrari Challenge series at about a third of the price of the Hoosiers. Running SCCA Club Racing in EP.

Bridgestone re970as pole position. Best handling tires I've had yet.

I was just looking at Nitto NT05 yesterday. Thinking about getting them. Im not happy with the RT615s I have on now from last year.
|
The RE970AS might be a great A/S tire, but they can't touch even the cheaper summer tire offerings. If they are the best handling tires you've ever had, then you haven't experienced performance tires yet.

Has anyone heard any news on availability of the BFG Rival for the RX8? Some of the drivers, in other cars, are singing their praises in my local club.

aimlessly chatty post;
for NASA PT/TT we run Hoosier R6's, and USTCC we run whatever nitto spec tire the rules say we should. the nittos add 3 seconds to our laptimes... |
I'm running Hankook RS-3s on the street, they stick like glue in twisties and roundabouts, Got them from a buddy of mine with a 450hp STi who autocrossed with them which he liked a lot.
Would I buy them again? Yeah but not for street use - too expensive for my driving habits. |

The round kind with air in them ....

Roasted NT01s after 2.5 days. Cords in under 400 miles on all four tires with fairly even wear. Grip had fallen off (1+s slower and confirmed with latg) after first day (200 miles). Best time was 1:49.7 at Gingerman Long (only had one no-passenger session). Got a 1:52.8 on Goodyear RS-A all seasons. Picked up an used set off PS3s of CL and plan to work more with cheap and durable all seasons before moving back to r comps or sticky streets. $400+/day in tires is too rich for my blood. Actually, the idea of sticky tires seems silly for non-competition use when considering the driving time lost to tire expense. I'll also be looking into endurance brake pads over DTC-60s, which are lasting about 700 miles.
