ULLLLLLLLLLLOSE getting published!

Many of you know that ULLLLLLLLLLLOSE, aka Jason, recently obtained an editorial position with the SCCA publication "SportCar". Well, the evidence of that accomplishment can be seen in the newest issue, where Jason's work is featured front and center, including a very interesting and well written article on Mark Huffman's amazing D Mod Lotus Elan.

Congrats, Jason, on your big contribution to the magazine. I'm looking forward to reading more of your stuff...btw, the Green air filter really gave that much power and torque in the '8? I guess that was your "unfair advantage" at Topeka ;)

I have been impressed with his writing as well. It seems that Sportscar magazine is taking a turn more toward a GRM-like magazine, and I like that. Kudos.

The Huffman story was work, as was the brake pad story. The air-filter/plug wire story was fun. We were all shocked at the difference, we did multiple runs on them all, and even switched back to our base filter at the end to make sure nothing was screwy. There is always some variation from run to run on a dyno, that is why we took the average, but the Green made the most power. The KN and Green both saw a slight tq increase over the paper, about 2 ft lbs, but the Green had more on the top end.

I would not say it was an "unfair advantage", just made up for the extra weight I had to carry VS Matthew. :)

They have been wanting to do more traditional car magazine stories for a long time, but they have been short on staff for the last year, now we can do this kind of stuff more often. While we were at the Solo natls we shot a couple more cars to be future feature cars. We also picked out some cars at the Runoffs to feature. Unfortunately we cant run a feature car or tech story every month, but we are going to work in as many as we can over the next year.

How about this crazy stuff, we are going to start selling subscriptions to non-scca members. They thought that maybe the people that subscribe to some of our other publications, like Racer and IndyCar, might be interested in SportsCar, so we are going to give it a try.

I wont pretend to know what I am doing, I just have some ideas and a tiny bit of talent for telling a story. Philip Royle is the man that puts it all together, for most part last year he did the whole magazine by himself.

Congrats. It must be great to be involved in the industry as a contributing voice.
Cheers.

Jason, you're welcome for the props...;)

The Huffman car really begs a question, relative to autocross: Is this level of prep (read $$$$) a good thing for the sport, ultimately?

I guess cars like Mark's, and Erik's, just give me more reason to stay in stock class...

I enjoyed the articles, but did notice some grammatical/spelling errors. :)

Guess I need to get a Green filter now. Off to Laguna...

If they'll give you a ride, it's a great thing! Mark's car seems to warp reality when along for a ride, when you get back in the 8 you keep checking if the parking brake is on or something....
