I make the passenger seat fold all the way down backwards and put the camera on the passenger side rear quarter glass. That way the lanyard can be secured around the quarter glass opener thingie.

Like zees:

If you keep watching there is some departure from controlled flight in both sides of the video. Oddly enough, the same blue GT86 is behind me in both cases (on different years).

I mount my camera to my helmet- tells me where I'm looking and what my hands are doing.

I need to figure out how to get some of the data to overlay videos like you all are doing. Ran Pittsburgh for the first time (only the second time I have raced this car) The cameras outside the car are great as you can see the line better but inside shows what the driver is doing. I also wonder what effect an outside camera has on aero (if any) This video its mounted on the roll bar but on my street car I have mounted them to the rear glass with a suction cup which has also worked well. I have also seen cameras mounted to helmets and its good for driving analysis but harder to watch for fun after. Guess I need more cameras to mount for various uses.

So, two months after my ball joint failed, it seems Mazda has decided to recall 2004s for this exact issue. Am I just unlucky or ???

Anyway, I would advise anyone with a 2004 to check this. More detail here: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-...-track-265502/

Have been experimenting with this myself. There's a free app called Trackaddict that will either use the phone's camera or external (gopro etc). It can even trigger external cameras. Then it records data channels you select and outputs them to a file that can be loaded into another program called Racerender. That one is paid but they do have a basic free version. The tricky part is getting the data log and video to synch up. At first I was using the GPS data to correlate with video, but I think a better idea would be to relate the throttle position with a gearshift in the video. Here's my first attempt, and you can see that based on throttle position when I shift, it's slightly off. Recorded values are GPS location, phone's internal accelerometer, OBDII speed, RPM and throttle position (throttle body not pedal).

RX-8 Versus Nissan 370Z at Summit Point Shenandoah. What a great, technical track. It has a replica of the famous Nurburgring Karrusel, where I can pull more than 2.0gs sustained.

An old one, but still the best time I had with the car. Camera mounted to my seat.

Here's a full daily dose of epic rotary sounds! Hopefully it also helps folks who are interested in an external mic for track use. As you'll hear, the difference is amazing.

Some video from the SCCA MARRS Labor Day Double at Summit Point. Kinda boring race overall.

Here's my latest encounter with the 350HP Nissan 370Z. The guy keeps getting faster!

Had some fun last sunday at Sonoma.
No misfire CEL, so hoping it is finally fixed after installing a new s2 fuel pump.
Having to double clutch to shift from 3->4 though so need to figure that one out. Car was loose all day even after I disconnected the rear sway bar. That's basically my excuse for not having the confidence to race the E30s and the miata :-)

Couple of laps late in the day were smoother and little faster than my best in the race:

Second of those was about 0.5s up until my mistake in T7.

Had some fun chasing a friend in his 911 yesterday. Our two cars are pretty evenly matched right now. Best laps within a couple tenths. Grip vs power :-)

I under-estimated my fuel consumption a little, and ended up with fuel starvation in T8 starting on lap 8 which was a bit of a shame, but I don't think I would have got by unless the car in front made a mistake.

good times battling with hufflepuff at Summit Point. my first competition event with the car. still learning to drive it, been driving an Evo for the last 8 years. being in the same class, we pushed each other pretty hard. towards the end of the vid, my engine got hot and coolant spray out the tank into the engine bay. not sure if any of it caused the spin or it was my driving or car setup. i was pretty lucky not to hit anything. that corner has a pretty high hit rate if you get out of control there.

How to pass 27 cars in 15 laps, in the rain! Apologies for the shitty exposure, the GoPro exposure lock didn't stick. Started 33rd in the SCCA Florida Cup/SARRC race at Homestead-Miami yesterday after coming in after only 1 lap in qualifying because the windshield was so foggy I couldn't see anything. Finished 6th Overall and P1 in class!

Well done. What tires / size were you running? I had a wet/damp event this weekend but was on my dry tires. 😐

Hoosier Radial Wets 225's. They held up great, and already had a few heat cycles on them before this weekend. Ran a 1:38.1 last time I was there in the dry with R7's, and ran a 1:43.0 this past weekend with the rains in the wet. It was a lake this weekend, with a river running through Turn 1! Also managed to shed ~200lbs by removing the HVAC, the tranny cooler setup we had and the headlights, but had to add a 55mm restrictor plate after switching classes, between those races.

Some awesome videos. Hufflepuff, what tires do you typically run? I saw somewhere trying to look you mentioned 100TW tires, but not brand or anything... I typically won't go lower than 200, but it is good to know what others like to use...
