Track brake upgrade
 

Ok been skimming threads for a while but as with everything new products come out all the time.

So I’m looking to upgrade my pads and rotors.
I have a nice discount code for ebc that would bring the price down a good amount. I’ve run the yellow stuff before and they were great just didn’t last long enough.
So at this time I’m looking to do pads and rotors.
Looking to buy the kit form them with rotors and blue stuff pads.
Use the rotors and keep the blues stuff for backup or road trip maybe. then get some cobalt friction pads for front and back.
Does this sound like a plan or would I want different rotors.
I was using up a pair of yellow stuff pads in a weekend. Just using power stop rotors. Rotors worked well till pads failed.
So would my combo of ebc rotors and cobalt friction pads be a good choice or should I look elsewhere for rotors?
Also the ebc site shows two different rotors. One for sport suspension and one for normal? seems two different mm sizes.
I assume sport is the correct ones for my 2010 or are those just for r3?

Sport is the right size for anything except base model automatics. You should be plenty fine with those rotors. Even basic OE rotors are fine for a while.

Do you have specific problems with the current brakes? If they fade, look into cooling ducts.

No real problems with the ebc yellow stuff pads other than they wear out very fast. After more searching even the blue stuff pads only make it slightly longer than what I’m experiencing so I juts need more of a track pad. Rotors even being cheap have held up well until pads give out.
Friend with a gt350r that tracks a lot had the same issue and went with cobalt and says they last a very long time and have a much more consistent feel to them. So I’m thinking the ebc package and saving the ebc pads for road trips and daily or for even backup pads if need be at a long track weekend.
I can get a lot of laps in in one day as someone I know or myself and friend will rent the track late fall and have a small group for the day.

I'm running cheap Raybestos rotors from RockAuto ($20 each on closeout) and Raybestos ST43 pads. I've also tracked it on 100% stock pads and rotors and it was great too.

I used to run centric blank rotors and they were pretty consistent as far as quality. I have also run yellow stuff and they are a good pad for the price. You can street them and do moderate track days. However you still need to manage them and if you drive 10/10ths they will overheat. I have found they actually will still work OK overheated, but they burn up quick. This is probably what you are experiencing.

You can try ducting or moving up in pads. Carbotech XP8 or 10s worked well. Not sure if you are street driving these pads or what price.

Also YellowStuff is kind of a middle of the road pad. Better than street, worse than full track. Like HP+s.

​​​​​​If you're serious go for DTC60 pads, they do fine on street and very well on track. CarboTech is good, but I seem to recall that the transfer layer is not compatible with other types of pads, so you're locked in once you install them.

I believe I was burning them up when hot. They got hot then I kept going and they just went away. Always stopped ok.
So I ordered the ebc rotors slotted and dimpled.
Then I ordered the cobalt friction pads. They seemed pricey but seem to last and really work. So I’m gonna give them a shot.
Have two gridlife buddies that swear by them.

Yeah, the real high temp pads are pricey. Once you get out of the street/track pad class (HP+, yellowstuff) things get expensive quick. I spent a lot of time on ducting to try to make less expensive pads work. It can make the difference if you are on the edge.

Did you say what kind of tire you are running?

I second the Raybestos ST43 pads with oem rotors. If you’re tracking register with Mazda Motorsports. Then you get the oem rotors for a decent price.

I’m running the rt660.
May try the ps4s Thai next time as they work good on my rs and are light years ahead in rain. But the falcons are great.
Rotors came today pads tomorrow.
Everything was pretty reasonable as far as price compared to even buying street track pads for my edge or focus. I love how cheap parts are for this car.
