Tow strap mounting point

Thought this would be a better place to pose the question as some of you use straps.

Where are you guys mounting the straps?

Drilling through the crash bar?

Using the stock M20 sized threaded hole in the crash bar?

other mounting point?

Why don't you just use the stock tow hook...

Not ricer enough

Think this should go to Exterior Appearance section lol.

The downside of using a strap (if it's not just for looks) is that if you have it attached inside the bumper, and then have it come out through a slit in the bumper, the second the tow vehicle makes a turn it will rip your bumper out of the mounts because the strap will get pulled to the side.

That being said I've always used the stock tow hooks and never had a problem, the potential weight savings of trying to go to a strap is almost nothing, not worth the trouble to me.

In the front you can remove your front bumper cover, wrap a strap around your metal bumper and then feed it through the opening used for the factory front tow hook when reinstalling the bumper cover. For actual racing this works well (and is mandated in some series) as it won't damage any cars you hit like the stock tow hook. You can see the yellow tow strap sticking out from the front of my car in this pic.

This is how my set up looks.
I cut a slot in the bumper. Behind the bumper I have no crash bar. there is a mount that attaches to the chassis rail at on of the crash bar bolt holes. My car has been towed twice now (first a spin then couldn't hot start it then a crash),only ripped the bumper when it was towed on a sharp 90 deg turn into the pits. here it is once I fixed it
