Anyone Touge race???

Something that I've always wanted to do...

If anyone does... what kind of setup are you running?

i just pull the ebrake and drift like crazy on the touge.

see... Im not quite confident enough with this car to trust its drifting lines just yet... but I was up on the local touge last night, and as far as grip with this car.... I was able to hang downshifts and pull 40-50 mph through the curves so it seems pretty capable.

I love touge. In my opinion it is the best form of racing.

Touge = kids that think they know how to drive.

I laughed at one of the comments, "it looked like he was driving a FWD car the way that happened."

Need to take it to the track.

This is one of the few subjects where we can all agree with Razz . . . .

Touge was originated on a closed course. It is run professionally on a closed course by fully geared and caged drivers that know eachothers styles VERY well. To simply go bumper to bumper with a buddy through a canyon is pure stupidity that will end badly.

NOW, there are certain closed areas for touge in Japan, and they do not have to have fully caged cars, heck they dont even need a helmet. watch bmi

Touge provides a whole diffrent experience from a track, it teaches you a whole different approach on driving.

It teaches you how to be a stupid teenager who thinks they can drive, but is really a danger to everyone around. I have never met a single idiot with a dangling stuffed animal who can actually apex a corner correctly. And doing this type of driving on public roads should be an instant revocation of ones license.

I can not stess this enough, racing (or 'you're gay'. . . i mean 'you're too gay'. . . i mean 'touge') is something that should be kept on the track.

I agree with you, it should not be done on public roads. I have been to several track days, and autoX's. And even at the road courses people automatically dislike you, if you happen to wear a drift shirt or even if you mention drifting. Why? One time when I had an instructor by my side, tries were greasy, and I went sideways and stayed sideways. He hated me, told me to stop, thats not the fast way. blah blah. I'm at a track, they only reason I'm there is to have fun and learn more about my car, so why am I getting frowned on?

Don't judge people. Racing in a touge is about controlled driving. I completely agree there are several individuals who go balls out on a public road and put everyone at risk; but there are also those who practice it in controlled environments who get blamed daily because of the other idiots on the road.

Why do you say "stupid teenager"? Do you consider people like keiichi tsuchiya or
Nobuteru Taniguchi stupid teenagers (they started in the touge).

Problem is... They dont make tracks (that i know of... ) with hills that will accelerate your car to twice its original speed without you intending it to... that and... who says you have to go bumper to bumper? I love going out at 3:00 am and hit it up with a stop watch and beat my own time...

nothing wrong with that... that and I feel its very intense... you aint gonna hit a cone if you mess up man...

That is not touge. Thats just some idiot who does not respect his car, neither does he respect the road, who in their right mind would cross the yellows?

Anybody who can find a "Windy mountain road" (Actual Japanese translation of the word "Touge) And drive it quickly, Is indeed touge racing.


I think that lancer spent a little too much time on the rally trail cuz it would've done a lot better trying to get some more grip..

Believe it or not, that's actually on a track. It just look like it's a mountainside. So, however you look at it, they're not irresponsible in anyway, they're in a controlled environment.

What you're wanting to do is going to a canyon/mountain and driving in a non-controlled environment where anything can happen. That imo, is irresponsible and stupid.

Have you ever been to Japan? About 90% of their mountain roads have a 2 speed bumps that are very close together before and after a turn to prevent this sort of thing. Touge is dangerous, people now do this so call "Touge battles" in controlled environments. None of that stupid Initial D shit.

I was talking about when it first originated, it was in the mountains. As I wrote before it is and should be done in a controlled environment.

I am just saying that even those people who do practice this in a controlled environment are getting shit because of the idiots who do this on the streets.

Hittin a cone is better than pretty much anything you are gonna hit on a canyon run. A fence, a tree, a gutter, a kid on a bike.



If this is really your hobby, and you really do race your car on the streets, keep it to yourself. Street racing is frowned upon here. :icon_no2:

I dont street race. I frown upon it as well.

As for the kid on the bike at 3:00 am as I'm doing 50 instead of a speed limit of 45 on the public roads... I wave as I pass him wondering wtf he's doing out at that hour...

If you're driving against the clock on public roads, you're street racing. I don't care if it's three in the morning or five in the afternoon. That makes you an idiot and a danger to those around you.

You guys spend as much time in your coned-up parking lots as you want...

But I'll tell you this... there is nothing quite so relaxing as going out by yourself at night, windows and sunroof open, with the cool wind blowing through the car and some mellow music just cruising the roads...

And hey... Once you hit that half mile that just so happens to be curvy as all hell, Just turning the music down, and driving through it only a little bit faster than you might during the day... That is paradise to me. I buy cars, because I'm a driver... thats what I do, I dont drink, I dont do drugs. To me, there is nothing more satisfying than time spent alone behind the wheel getting to know yourself and your car.

Is there ANYWHERE on this forum, that someone doesn't get AUTOMATICALLY slammed for not being a track whore?
