I'd highly recommend going with Ohlins alz0rz... just my two cents. I literally had a line of people wanting to take my car out this Sunday during the test and tune... :x FTD was set in my car as well. Not by me sadly though

IIRC, the range of spring rates the stock valved PSS9's can handle are 340-400# front and 240-500# rear (progressive spring). I switched to the 7K (~392# Swift front springs. I also ran adjustable MX-5 swaybars front and rear (I didn't like the crazy *** stiff bars that are available for the RX-8 specifically). The end result was a very balanced and neutral car which felt just about right on grippy asphalt (would have made a few more changes for concrete). I was able to win the 2010 NE Divisional with the set-up and the mild STX build I had on the car at the time.

Correct. I was able to work with the progressive rears, but the stock PSS9 fronts were too soft.

If I did it again, I'd still go with Bilsteins but I'd buy the Fat Cat Motorsports stuff instead...

I would have responded sooner but I'm not checking this forum as much as I used to. Playing a lot more of this lately:

I'll probably be in USTA league by next year at the 4.0-4.5 NTRP level. My RX-8 will be for sale later this summer as I need an SUV with more room for my tennis bags and gear.

I don't see a lot of people sharing corner weights, but this is where I stand as of yesterday:

With 215 lb driver and just a tick over 1/4 tank of gas:
LF: 819 lb RF: 754 lb
LR: 745 lb RR: 681 lb

Total w/ driver: 2994
Cross%: 50.0%
Front%: 52.5%
Left%: 52.2%

Note: I realize the total weight does not match the sum of the corner weights. I am not sure why... these are the numbers I was provided.

They were unaware of any fitment issues but also said the design has been revised a couple times.

I'd really like to hear some customer feedback before considering this midpipe.
Following up on the CorkSport catted midpipe, I requested additional information from CorkSport and have been back and forth with Derrick @ CorkSport over the past couple weeks. It turns out CorkSport's catted midpipe has the cat located at the back of the midpipe (and resonator at the front), which is reversed from the OEM location. Based on the SCCA Solo rulesset, this renders CorkSport's midpipe illegal for use in STX class, based on the 6" rule:

(from Section 13.10E of the 2011 SCCA Solo Rules)
"Any high flow catalytic converter(s) are allowed, but must attach within six inches of the original unit. Multiple catalytic converters may be replaced by a single unit. The inlet of the single replacement converter may be located no further downstream than 6” along the piping flow path from the original exit of the final OE converter."

you may want to ask for a clarification from the SEB on what actually constitutes the "catalytic converter" on the RX-8 along with parts diagrams and pictures showing the actual OE cat pipe assembly. The cat converter itself is not sold as a separate item. Based on past interpretations you can make an argument that the entire cat pipe assembly on the RX-8 is the cat converter because of this. In that case the aftermarket cat would only need to be within 6" of the OE cat pipe outlet connection position which is half way down the PPF length.

However, this could all potentially change next year because at this point nobody has an inkling on what the ST rules & classifications may look like pending the latest attempt to totally f'up .... errrr .... I mean reorganize and restructure the category.

Thanks. Here are some runs from Heat 2. Heat 1 was nothing special and I made some big swaybar changes before starting Heat 2, which proved to be beneficial. I had forgotten to erase some old vids from the SD card which resulted in Heat 3 not recording because it went full between the time I started the camera in grid and when those runs actually started.

Qualified 5th for the Challenge, but just as I was sent to the start line for the first run the car went completely dead; no electrical power. Turned out to be a damaged 200A circuit breaker on the battery positive cable, but it wasn't fixed soon enough and I was out on a DNS. It had started to rain at the start of the Open Challenege, so I and all my gear got soaking wet for nothing

Turned out that I had packed some stuff in the RX8 trunk for the trip over to Blytheville. When I got there the car had no power, turned out something had shifted and tripped the safety disconnect on the circuit breaker. What I didn't realize was that it actually broke off the plastic surround on the disconnect button. This allowed the button to twist in the slot and when it popped at the start of the Challenge this kept it in a slightly depressed location which prevented the switch from being reset. Needless to say there will be a different switch there by the next event.

Nice runs, Mark. Car looks fast and predictable. Congrats on the win, but bummer about the Challenge.

thanks, unfortunately it's hampered by a driver who is slow and unpredictable I really drove rather poorly at this event. The 2nd place VW managed to RL a time away that would have beaten me and the codriver got screwed in Heat 3 when it started to rain heavily after the 1st drivers finished their runs. They got some vindication finishing 3rd in the Open Challenge, hard to beat AWD in the rain with treaded tires ...

it's just a short generic MAF tube connected to a straight tube extension with a K&N filter on the end in the bumper area, nothing special.

Congratulations to Zelse for a top-ten PAX finish this weekend at NER SCCA. In only his third time in the car, he finished first in BSP and only 0.315 seconds behind Nate Whipple's DSP car.

Nice job Marc!

And yeah but your car is all built.. I'm still missing key parts for my build and I've only raced it twice prior, so I'm still adjusting settings.. :P

I'll be heading down to Atlanta from KY for my first tour event. Haven't run a national event since Topeka in 2008 so we'll see how this goes.
