Stance Coilovers Set up for STX
 

Hey all. I searched for about an hour looking for a post or thread about my question. I've never set up a car or installed coilovers before. I first installed the front coils and set the height to half an inch lower measured from the center of the rim with 17x9 +35 245/4517. I then tried to installed the rears but was unable because stance had sent me two left rear coils.... Stance sent me a right coilover but it did not get here in time for a AutoX last Sunday.I did VERY well with just the fronts installed and the car felt tighter and rode just slighty harder than stock. I finally got around to installing the rears yesterday and set the height even with the front and on my way home the ride was just terrible. Very harsh and bumpy. I set the preload in the back the same way I did the front, tight enough that you could still turn the spring with one hand with moderate effort. I almost certain I have the dampening setting set to the softest both front and rear. Any help would would be great. Thanks

The dampening is softest when turned all the way counter clockwise. If you have it like that, and the preload set as you described, they shouldn't ride much rougher than stock suspension.

What was the condition of your original shocks? If they were beyond worn out, you would have been coming from a super mushy ride and it will feel tighter. How about air pressure in the tires? If that is too high, it will create a rough ride also.

measure the unloaded rear spring length and tell us what it is

Condition was very good no problems, I found that I had one side set full clockwise and the other counterclockwise... was pist when I figured it out... Thank you

Never thought to measure that... are you running the same set up? If so any advise on ride height/dampening setting for autocross. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think what he was trying to get at is: For a while, a bunch of Stance coilovers got sent out with the wrong length rear springs. It created some havoc with ride quality. Since then,the problem has been fixed but there may still be a few out there that haven't been replaced yet.

Do a bit of research about them and you will see whats up with that.

Now that you have the dampening figured out, Does it ride better?

the best thing you can do for your stance coilovers is to replace the garbage springs they come with with Swift springs.

I use Stance coilovers for autocross. I typically have them set very stiff because I run on super grippy concrete however I will soften them up when I am on a parking lot, I am still in the 10-15 range though. You can also adjust them to help with understeer/oversteer but I would rather control that on the day with tire pressures.

If you do upgrade your springs don't go too stiff or you will ruin the coilovers.

i was wondering the same thing so i have stance coils as well and im in the process of getting the car stripped and set up for nasa st and tt races i would like to use an r compound tire but im not sure as to which springs i should use and what the spring rates should be.

If you plan on using R compounds and competing you might as well buy a set of real coilovers with good valving and hydraulics.
My experience with cheap coilovers and grippy tyres screams "run away" :icon_no2:.
That may not be the case for AutoX because the runs are much shorter and there's a general lack of long, high speed corners.

yeah bse your right but im gonna have to wait till next year before i pick up good coils since im only doing tt maybe i will rethink the tire for now
