SpeedSource RX-8 on BaT

This 2004 Mazda RX-8 was built in 2005 by SpeedSource Race Engineering for the IMSA Continental Series (formerly the GranAm Koni Challenge). Power comes from a Renesis 13B MSP rotary reportedly rebuilt in 2018 mated to a Series-2 Mazda Motorsports 6-speed manual gearbox with a Mazdaspeed 5.12:1 differential. Modifications include ceramic apex seals, a SpeedSource eccentric shaft, BHR longtube headers, a custom Ron Davis Radiator, and a Motec M800 ECU. Other details include gas reservoir shocks, Stoptech brake kit, an FIA/IMSA-approved roll cage, Sparco Evo-3 seat, a fire suppression system, and more as described in the listing below. The car is currently sanctioned to run in SCCA Super Touring Lite according to the seller, and was reportedly serviced in February 2018. This RX-8 is now offered with a spares package, a parts car, an SCCA logbook, and a bill of sale.

The body is finished in blue and aerodynamics consist of a custom front splitter, 2004 Mazdaspeed side skirts and spoiler, and updated 2009 Series 2 front end components.

17″ Racing Heart CP-035 wheels wear Hoosier tires all around. The seller reportedly placed second overall in the South Atlantic Road Racing Championship points series, a Divisional Championship series in SCCA, with eight podium finishes in 2018.

Safety equipment includes an IMSA/FIA-approved roll cage, a Spa Firesense fire suppression system with a newer bottle, a cool-shirt setup, a Sparco Evo-3 seat with Schroth harness, and window netting.

Data acquisition is handled by MoTeC dashboard manager and a Sparco steering wheel is fitted.

Power comes from a Renesis 13B MSP rotary which is said to have been rebuilt in 2018. Power is routed through a 2009 Series 2 Mazda Motorsports 6-speed manual gearbox with a Mazdaspeed 5.12:1 differential. Alterations include ceramic apex seals, a SpeedSource eccentric shaft, a custom-built radiator by Ron Davis reportedly installed last year, as well as MoTeC ECU, differential cooler, and Braille Microlite lithium battery. Exhaust is through BHR ceramic coated long-tube headers and SpeedSource custom piping. Recent maintenance included replacing the ignition coils, plugs, and wires. According to the seller, the car is prepped and serviced following each race by TLM Racing in Miami, Florida.

A donor car will be included in the sale if the new owner desires, along with the following spare parts:
  • Two sets of Hoosier R7 DOT slicks with multiple heat cycles
  • Newer Hoosier rain tires
  • 2004 Mazdaspeed front aero
  • Fiberglass headlight blanks
  • Factory headlights
  • StopTech kit brake pads
  • Factory 323mm brake rotor, calipers, and pads
  • Two 2004 Series-1 transmissions, both plumbed for a transmission cooler
  • Transmission cooler
