Choice of FSB or RSB in stock!... not many FWD in C-stock but I wonder if this will make Cooper JCW competitive.... how about stock FSB and removed RSB on the 8?

TopGear8 10-21-2011 02:06 PM

^Yeah if you want to drive something that pushes like crazy...

I might have to play in BSP some next year. Although I think the S2000 will be a tad bit faster, it will be a closer battle than with the boosted machines. :)

TeamRX8 10-21-2011 02:50 PM

it will be more than a tad faster due to the weight and size advantage

the RX-8 needs to be in DSP

TopGear8 10-21-2011 03:00 PM

Well I wonder how many STR guys will switch to BSP now...I'll pick up another set of used Hoosiers to play just for fun.

TeamRX8 10-21-2011 03:15 PM

only those with deep pockets, a fully prepped SP car is not a cheap build

bentiac 10-21-2011 03:22 PM

I was hoping for street tire stock classes but that don't seem to be happening!

TopGear8 10-21-2011 11:10 PM

^Because it would be slow and boring... :dunno:

TeamRX8 10-22-2011 06:40 AM

They are discussing a special PAX street tire combined Stock class for Nationals

Which is totally absurd IMO

dmitrik4 10-22-2011 08:40 PM

and when no one shows up to run the street tire PAX at Nats, they will find something else to complain about.

Agreed, although the RX-8 can run a lot more tire without screwing up the gearing (at the expense, I assume of yet more width).

But really:

this. Which won't happen, b/c THINK OF THE BMWS! Won't anyone think of the BMWs?

I disagree about the BMW's getting in the way of the RX8 going to DSP. Now that they've opened up the UD/BD opportunity by putting the E46 on the same line with the E36, DSP's balance has really been tipped...so much so that you HAVE to spend $$$$ to build an E46 car, if you want to win. Also, the performance potential, mostly because of gearing choices, has taken a huge leap up.

Seems to me the timing is perfect to write your letters to the SEB/SPAC, as there's no way the RX8 can be seen as escalating either cost to play or performance in DSP, imho.

It would also be cheap and convenient and not much slower for where I live. 80% of the events I attend are in rain... buying Hoosier wet or R888s are great but A6 becomes a waste of money... the last time I bought a set, I had to wait 8 events before I could use them ... and did I mention I hate kneeling in pools of water to change tires!

Speaking of DSP, Focus SVT will be moved out of DSP into FSP... Maybe it's time to sell my beater car and get one of those babies!

TopGear8 10-24-2011 07:13 PM

^I was speaking from a Nationals standpoint...Not local. Our local region as well as many others around here have a Tire class that is a pax'ed based class. 140 treadware or higher is required and you run with your base Stock/Mod/Prepared class...

Would love to get back home someday (born/raised in Washington State) but frankly the whole autocrossing in rain concerns me quite a bit.

BTW, one of the primary reasons I bought a trailer was because I hated changing tires in 95 degree/100% humidity and or rain here.

With the advent of the E46s, I'd be inclined to agree. I was being facetious about past debates about moving the RX-8 to DSP, where the BMW owners were all up in arms about how the RX-8 would be an overdog. I didn't see that being the case then, and I certainly don't see it now.

TeamRX8 10-25-2011 09:10 PM

Funny how those E30 and E36 owners aren't as up in arms about the E46

I was just about to submit a letter to the SPAC asking for them to revist the RX8/DSP move given the 2011 results

BRODA 10-26-2011 11:30 AM

I'm not sure DSP will be any slower than the new BSP.
