RX8 camera mount?
 

I'd like to get some in car video for the next autocross season so I can see where I'm screwing up my lines. How do you guys mount a camcorder/camera inside the RX8 so you can see your hands and the course ahead? Also any suggestions on a budget camcorder to go with some kind of mount system? I thought about a stickypod and a cheap canon SD600 point and shoot but it only does 30 fps at a low resolution plus i'd have to stick it outside the car so that's last resort

A straight bar mounted in the trunk extending into the cabin works.

Remove the plastic pass through counsole. Install, race and then diconect and put console back into place.

Run by a local autocrosser and a good guy. The windshield mount works well. So far I've only used it on the windshield, but been meaning to try on the rear window so I can see what my hands are doing.

I ended up getting a stickypod off a friend and used a Canon SD600 at 640X480 30 fps. The video came out reasonably good. I mounted the setup on the hood right in the middle towards the windshield.

Hate to bring this old thread back up but after experimenting with the point and shoot canon digicam on the sticky pod I wanted to try a new setup next season with a wider angle lens and better in cabin sound.

What I came up with is a cheapy SD camcorder with AV inputs and a bulletcam. I wanted to see if anyone had experience with such a setup. I know Samsung has a full setup like this ready to go but unfortunately it's 600 bucks which is way more than I want to spend. I was thinking something like this:

combined with a cheap ebay bullet cam. Anyone have any input or insight to such a setup? Also does the AV output from a bulletcam just have 1 single wire that contains both the audio and video feed?

I'm glad I found this thread, as I'm in the same situation...trying to figure out an effective way to get video. I also just bought the MaxQData data acquisition system and a XV6700 Pocket PC, so I'll be pretty wired...and confused, for awhile. Good thing my co-driver is a computer geek :p:

Anyhow, the cheap tapeless camera a couple of people have suggested is this one:

I'm not sure if it would be better or worse than the smaller Aiptek for our application?

I'm going to talk to Randy Chase about mounts and will report back, once I get the information. He's a good guy and I like to support those that support the cult of autocrossing.

I'm thinking a three suction cup mount on the back window, viewing over the driver's shoulder, might work, but don't know if the headrest and relative heights of the rear and front glass allows...If anyone else has found a good system, without breaking the bank, please post.

Interesting...it looks like, with a bullet cam, you could possibly do some type of very lightweight, drop down mount from the interior light in the middle of the headliner. Line of sight could be very good, from there...

Even cooler, I just read that a pocket PC has enough video memory to use as a recording device. So, I guess all I need is a bullet cam and a mounting system?

Wow that is really cool and much more secure than a suction cup mount, any idea where you can buy that mount and if they had to modify anything on the child seat anchor?

I took a look at the child seat anchor today and it looks like you have to unscrew the bolt that holds the clip down. I have never seen this product sold anywhere but it looks like you can buy misc. parts from home depot and make one yourself.
