RX-8 243 HP and 187HP @ the wheels according to

Interesting. Came accross this site that has a calculator that determines your HP based on the weight of the car and the quarter mile time. As a simple test, I put in the car's weight as 3200 pounds (including the driver) and a quarter mile time of 15 seconds. It came back with 243hp and 187 HP at the wheels!

I messed with the weight and quarter mile times and it always accounted for a loss of 23% in the powertrain even when I changed the name of the car.

Seems that this is somewhat consistent with some of the results some members have dyno'ed.

Here's the link:

http://www.sjdsm.com/tech/hp_calc.htm

Many on this site have stated that the HP in the RX-8 is less than 238 and probably closer to 210HP. They also state that most 8's can't do the 1/4 mile in less than 15 seconds, with a few exceptions. So I guess someone else thinks that the dyno tests and quarter mile results we have heard or seen from members here is kind of in line with this site's calculations.

Thoughts?

It's impossible to predict HP based on ETs....Top Fuel dragsters have THOUNSANDS of HP, yet, if they burn out, they coast thru the traps in a VERY 'slow' 10 or 11 seconds - just from the momentum gained at launch.

Use weight vs Trap Speed, not e/t.

Woooo, according to that calculator a stock WRX makes 231whp and my WRX makes 263whp with just exhaust and EM!

Hey its not my calculator! Ya, but it does seems generous when handing out HP. But it was interesting how they assumed 23 % loss in the drivetrain consistently. They must have come to a genral consensus after some experimenting, i guess.

Yeah. My STI, has 296whp, and 385hp at flywheel if it ran a 13.2 as it tested. To match the factory specs and common dyno runs the STI has, my STI would run a 14.3 to achieve 300 flywheel hp, and 231whp. No sense on bothering with these graphs, they are totally bogus. However, I noticed that the numbers are more accurate in that WHP is very close to the stated flywheel. Tried this on several cars, and it's matching up nicely.

The 1st generation rx-8's which was made in 2003 has more wheel horsepower according to www.rotaryextreme.com .Mazda has reprogramed the ECU a couple of times since 1st batch of rx-8s according to their testing with their intake system.
