ran the 1/4 for the first time

hey guys, this past sunday i ran the 1/4 mile at memphis motorsports park at an import showoff they had, It was the first time i ran my 8, It was about 94 degrees outside i ran about 15 times, most were in the 15.1 range, my car is a GT model, here is my best run below, I have 22000 on the engine, and the stock tires, they are bald, I have some coming next week so i figured why not. Funny thing was I pulled up and this blue FD with 19" wheels was in the next lane, at first I didnt think i was gonna run him, then he pulled up, I was man i am going to be embarrassed, the light turned green and i left him BAD, he ran a 15.6, I could not believe it, So I figured somthing went wong that run, I ended up talking to the dude, and saw his car was an auto, he said he had 450hp? im like wtf? theres no way, he blamed it on his 19'' rims, no way he had 450hp and ran a 15.6 i dont care if he had 20s, he said he used to run 12.00 or somthing untill the rims, nice guy though, I was satisfied with beating an FD, but I still want my old one back!
Our cars seem so much better quality, and whats up with the people in the stands talking so much trash about our cars!, i guess its jealousy, my g/f said she heard them saying "why does he run, he knows his car is slow!", and this is from guys whos buddys honda runs a 16.5 1/4, I believe i could have gotten better times if i would have lowed my tire pressure, or had some better tires :)
now i know why people hate these ricers.

You gotta work on your 60 a little bit. What gear did you crossed the line in? Your trap seems a little on the anemic side of things. I just wonder how you shifted. One more thing: how were you launching?

yz007 09-07-2004 12:07 PM

run

thats what i thought anemic :), some runs i had 93 mph, I could not get the bald street tires to hook up, so i more or less slipped the clutch some to get less wheels spin, and I had bad wheel hop after the launch, I would ususally cross in 4th gear, did not like to go in at 9200 rpm, sometimes i would just keep it in third, i dont remember what i did this particular run, my best 60' time was 2.210, I could not figure how to get it lower, I think the heat had a lot to do with my low traps. that run was after my engine and cooled down, but it was so humid and hot outside the car did not feel its strongest. mabye with some better tires i can get a better 60ft. what else can i do?
thanks,
Jesse

Sounds like a nice day at the track. As per name i like the 1/4 mile. One word of caution those of you with stock suspensions. This is not a drag car, wasn't built for that. SO you will have a lot of wheel hop with a hard launch. Tahts wrecks havic with your u joints as when wheel hop occurs the suspension is actually twisting. Its not a straight up and down thing as some may believe. IF A U JOINT BREAKS YOU COULD HAVE A REAL DISASTER. We have a carbon fiber drive shaft. If that thing pops the ground it's probaly going to break. When it does and is bouncing around it probaly will come in contact with either one or both of the surrounding gas tanks. GET THE PICTURE. If you drag this car get a drive shaft loop! If not then getting the afternarket suspension(springs and bars) uusually takes care of the wheel hop.
take care man.

Guys I have a question. I am getting numbers higher than I should in the 8. But I have a better 60' time than yz007 but he has better 330' and 1/8th mile. How can I improve this any ideas.
this is my best run out of 7
R/T- .330
60'- 2.243
330'- 6.682

dont deflate the tires too much, feather it at 8k, slower 60' times tend to get better 1/4 mile times in the 8. Ive never drag raced but this is what I gather from other peoples results.

yea thats true i did a 15.3 on my 8 easing the clutch out at 5k and left the tire pressure at 32psi i had the lexus sc400 tire bridgestone 245/40/18zr runflate tires compared to the 225/45/18r , the 245 were on the rear and if i launched the 8 at 7-9 k it will wheel hope like crazy for 2 gears and i ran an 18.6
