Poll for B-stock RX-8 drivers: High flow panel filter or OEM?
Just wondering what others are doing, even though I doubt the gains would be major...
Did you stick with an OEM filter or upgrade to a K&N, etc.? |
It really doesn't matter either way as long as it's clean.
|
Guess someone needs to read SportsCar. ;)
btw I have a used, but recharged, K&N for sale. |

I know, you cleaned it and oiled it...just never heard that referred to as "recharged"... Also, do you really think your one day of dyno work with filters is statistically conclusive? |

did you use official "Filtercharger" oil? 'cause if you didn't, then it doesn't count as a an official "recharge"...

I've only been an SCCA member since 2006 (i.e. I didn't get Sportscar before then). |

It was very recent, maybe last month? The issue with Mark Huffman's Lotus D Mod car on the cover...the first issue where they let ULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOSE loose in his new editorial role...:Peace:

The thinness of Green filter is kinda scary. I'm kinda in a toss-up between that and just sticking with the OE filter. :banghead: |

Thanks. I found the article. I think I'll pass on the used K&N! ;)

That is a great idea for you....btw I have an OE air flter with dyno time only if you want to buy a fresh one. :)

Anyone have a scan of, or link to the article? I don't get sportscar (can't seem to find a link to anything on scca's page either). From the discussion here, it seems the OEM filter is probably pretty descent.

noticed that they didn't show a dyno run sans air filter ...

FWIW, while I'm picking up the virtually brand new OE filter Isley used in this article, I will also be getting a new Green Filter to use at autocross events only. Even though I'll be changing my oil every 2,500-3,000 miles with this car, I don't trust using a Green Filter for daily driving. |
thanks for the scan.

FWIW, I picked up a new Green panel filter yesterday to use at autocross events only throughout the '08 season. If a new Green filter truly makes 5hp & 2lb-ft more than a new OE filter, then it'll be worth the $.
Question to Isley - as the ECU 'learns' that more air is getting into the engine with a high flow filter, will the performance increase you saw on the dyno be reduced over time? |

Chike, where'd you get the green? Best price I've found is about $61 inc. S&H at Car-stuff.
|
That's cheaper than what I paid Tom. I got mine for $65 shipped off of Ebay. :banghead:
|
YMMV...but, probably not...literally
