Please help me decide - going nuts!

Hi

I've been self-debating for several months now. For autocross, I have a Miata that I love but a bit too small and slow for my daily driving. I'm considering an RX-8 that I think would suit me better for daily driving (my golf clubs will fit better) .

I think for autocross the Sport Package only would be best but the GT package would be more comfortable for my daily driving.

After a long monolog, my question is ...is there enough difference in weight between Sport and GT to impact the autocross? I'm only doing it for fun, no nationals for me but I thought I'd ask your opinion.

Thanks!

I wish I got the sport instead of the GT. The Moon Roof takes up a bunch of headroom. I have to sit further back than normal when wearing a Helmet

Expo1 - thanks for the input; never thought about the helmut and the moonroof. How's the lumbar support with the cloth seats? I can't imagine it's worse than the Miata - like NO support there.

I have the GT (Leather), been to the track twice and found the support good. Moving the seat back far enough as to not to hit my head was the problem. I got a Kirkey racing seat for next year that I will swap out for track days, it’s about 3” lower than stock. Bring your helmet to the dealer and sit in both.

Consider the base rather than the sport - you don't have to remember to push the "no fun" button off before your runs... :)

Edit - my base is just fine for daily driving - it lacks none of the essentials...

the base comes with all the go-fast goodies and should be the lightest. it is also bargin priced and a great deal since you can pay well under sticker (or could last year). i got a loaded one myself cuz, well im getting old and soft i suppose :) i will just make up for the weight disadvantage by driving faster :D

I wouldn't buy the GT for the comfort, I would buy it for the options, HID, traction control, moonroof, and the leather. If you don't care about that the cloth seats are great, you can save some change, and the car will be a bit lighter (about 150lbs). If you want the options, if you aren't competing to make it to the top in nationals I don't think the extra weight will make that much of a difference to you.
