OMP issues

This past weekend I was participating in a track event and noticed some minor oil.... well after fishing around a bit it seems like there is some oil coming from the oil metering pump (not a ton of oil but a drips)... I was wondering if any of you have noticed that after pushing the car at an event? If so how did you fix it? etc...

I will be getting under the car this weekend to try and narrow down the problem. I did notice that it doesn't leak under daily driving...

Haven't seen that one before...take pics once you start playing around with it this weekend.

I had problems with the front cover seal leaking...and the OMP gasket as well....

Both easily fixed

And neither leaked on the street......just on the track:)

sounds like you may be onto something... i was assuming that it was the gasket. how would i know if its the front cover seal leaking?

Check the front cover near the bottom of the eccentric shaft...it tends to spin up onto the OMP area and below. The OMP will usually leak just between itself and the housing... You might want to clean it off and see whether it leaks normal driving...it likely won't....and unless it is a lot more than mine was, it won't be a problem on the track

if the front cover is leaking that would be cover under the Mazda warranty right?

I would think if the OMP gasket is leaking it would also be covered under warranty.

The OMP is not covered underwaranty because it considered an external component of the engine. I told him that this is a preventative measure so the motor did not have to be replaced. He then told me that the engine would be evaluated to determine the cause of failure. BTW the OMP was suppose to run 1500 bucks to replace I told him no thank you.

Oh well. If it is the gasket that should be cheap and easy.

the front seal is known to weep at track days.. the omp, not so much.

the omp gasket is copper.. you can snug it down a bit..

The gasket on the discharge side where it goes into the lines are copper crush gaskets...the OMP to housing is an o-ring type seal

just put some Mr Gasket-- instant one minute type in aerosol can from Advance Auto-- around the omp housing/oem omp gasket and viola--no more leaks. at the track. I had this pretty good and that fixed it right up.
