Serious AutoX...What class are you competiting in...SM? Also where do you live.

I8U 08-12-2009 01:10 PM

As for the brakes, I recommend Racing Brake 2-piece rotors, and Cobalt XR-2/GTS pads combo.

For the trans, you could always upgrade to the new 09 trans

Wheels, the lighter the better, how big a tire are you wanting to run? 17's are good, there are a lot of guys here running 17's for race. I also recommend Hoosier KONI tires.

Thx I8U Racing Brake is in my list.
For Trans what do i need for upgrade? or 09 complet trans??
I dont know for the size i will runing witch size you recommend me??

I8U 08-12-2009 02:41 PM

The complete 09 trans...the KONI Challenge 8's run 17x9 with 245/40/17's. A few autoX guys here are running 285/30/18's on 18x9.5 Enkei RPF1's

TheBurkeMan 08-12-2009 05:34 PM

rx8 se, you should post up some pictures of your car, i bet it looks badass

ebb 08-12-2009 10:10 PM

You recommend hoosier koni tires for autox? I would consider something much softer.

This is not directed at I8U, just a question: why do people get the bigger brakes when they get the 2 piece? Seems the advantage comes from losing some weight, not fade resistance. The stock sport size rotors seem like they will never fade to me.

Hoosier Koni's are good...R6's are nice too, hell even Toyo R888s would be nice. My point was a good r compound.

Also, I never said anything about getting bigger brakes, I said look at the 2 piece rotors from RB, their rotors are the same size as the stock sport rotors on our car, 12.7".

2 piece brake have some advantage firts light second heat disipation and last one in AutoX you need alot of brake = after couple of race your rotor is dead and wjit 2 piece rotor yon dont need too replace all rotor just only ring you re use you hat and you save money.

Can you actually get brake fade on an autox with an rx8? I have never autocrossed, but really? I use motul 600 and dtc 60's, and have not experienced it.

As I understand it, the companies that use larger diameter rotors have to due to the amount of drilled holes they put in them to keep them from cracking prematurely. I have gotten brake fade during a couple autoX events and full course HPDE's using stock rotors, Cobalt pads, and ATE blue fluid.

One thing I noticed about companies making the 2 piece rotors, they offer stock sizes but only slotted, drilled, or both. In my class that is not allowed unless it was factory stock that way. This is forcing me to have my 2 piece rotors custom made. I called racing brake and 2 other companies to ask if they could get me the rotors I need to match there hats and they said no. In the end I don't think it will cost any more, so no big deal.

What class are you running and with who? Weird your class will allow 2-piece rotors as long as they are blanks vs having a slotted one. Doesn't make sense.

I8U 08-14-2009 07:28 PM

When I do my next fluid flush I gonna re-fill with Motul 600. I looking at upgrading to some dimpled/slotted 1-piece rotors if the Racing Brake open slotted 1-piece never make it to market.

I run in STU mostly, in a local sports car club. They stay very close to SCCA rules and classification...there really isn't a lot of competition in STU/street tire. I ran B-stock for a couple events before they realized my tire size was way more than allowed. They never took my wins away from those events though. I really want to get this thing paid off so I can turn it into a full-on track car and finally buy the M3 or M6 I've been wanting.

Any chance you'll be going to the NCAC in Greensboro this October? It would be nice to have another RX8 in STU with me :)

Same here, I've never had any fade on track with the Cobalt GTS pads. I'm switching to the XR2/XR5 combo for my next track event though.

17x9 RPF1's are your best bang for the buck lightweight wheel at under 15.9lbs. It's what I rock at the track.

Running XR2/GTS combo, I did back to back sessions with an set of old KONI's. Only happened once. After the session we took infrared reading of the fluid in the reservoir and it was just under 360F. Once I got back out for my third session it was fine.
