looking for 2 piece brake rotors.
I want to replace my stock rotors with 2 piece rotors since I'm having bad experience with the stockers. Does anyone make a set beside Auto Exe?

You mean floating rotors? Why you need that, do you overheat with the stockers?
I've found the stockers actually pretty good, even in track condition. All I do is to swap in better pads while on track. |

thanks for the info :beerchug: that weight loss is just the front brakes only :Freak_ani but some of that will be offset by the caliper adaptor mounts :eyetwitch

Alex - thought you were running 17" wheels. Site says the 13" kit will fit the OEM 18" wheels. Did they say a 17" wheel will work with the big 13" kit? Or do they make a replacement caliper to go with the 12.6" smaller discs.

ok, RacingBrakes told me via email that they will be going ahead on a 2-pc rear rotor for the RX-8 with an estimated 9.6lb weight savings. Their drilled & slotted 1-pc performance replacement rear rotor is 1 lb lighter than OE
they are also going to look at a replacement 2-piston aluminum rear caliper too edit: I'm not in yet, I'm evaluating my financial position, it's a good deal but if you're tight on dough .... |

The idea of losing so much weight is inviting, but someone who knows, please help me understand a bit more about these lightweight brakes. First, I get all excited about it then I get stuck on a couple points that seem counter-intuitive.
Ok, bottom line, the point of a brake is to be a heat sink, take the energy of mass at speed into heat and slow the car. Now nice heavy iron calipers and rotors do a good job at that, they sink alot of heat and come back for more. We all know our brakes are awesome, if not lightweight. BUT... and here is where I begin to worry....take away the mass of iron that's there and the heat generated still has to be absorbed during braking and dissipated as quickly as possible so there is not overheating and fade as a result. These beautiful & nice lightweight calipers aren't going to do that like the original, the somewhat lighter rotors are less effective in that regard as well. And I'm esp concerned at the track, not autocross, but the race track where I have seen my stock brakes get up into the 500 degree heat range. So in the end, is the braking performance helped or actually hindered by this lightweight replacements? - putting the benefits of less unsprung weight aside for the moment? |

A lot of your concerns are with heat dissipation.....the lighter rotors have lower mass...but will probably loose heat faster due to the better venting..and the aluminum hats will dissipate heat faster than the cast iron......

According to Tire Rack (via spec sheet) the 225/45/18 RE040 weigh 28lbs and the Kumho MX 275/40/17 weigh 28lbs so no real gain or loss there :cwm27: |
