Just finishing up some final touches on the most recent round of safety equipment, thought I'd show you guys how low my fabricator was able to mount my seat.

I'm 6'5" and now I can barely see over the steering wheel! It's awesome!

Here's his Facebook page so you can see more pictures, clicking Like would be cool as well.

that's pretty cool Arca but 99% of the people with headroom issues aren't going to that extreme of an interior in order to mount their seat as low as you did.
You bringing that sweet beast to SS?

Yeah I completely agree that these are extreme measures, that's why I opted to post it in the Racing section instead of Interiors. Just showing how ridiculously low you can get a fixed back seat in these cars with some fab work.

Unfortunately I won't be making it to Sevenstock this year, I burned up my vacation time last weekend for Global Time Attack in Texas and the next round of the UMS Tuning Time Attack Series and NASA AZ event on October 6/7.

Atilla 09-25-2012 12:21 PM

oh damn...

pretty cool adjustment :icon_tup:

I was looking at custom brackets as being my only option for new seats - guess i should rethink it now.

yale02 09-25-2012 01:32 PM

Looking good, can't wait to see it at the next NASA event!

TopGear8 09-25-2012 03:14 PM

All that work on the car to make it a track car...And your still on PowerTrix coilovers...

:banghead:

dannobre 09-25-2012 03:15 PM

Getting rid of the cross beam makes it ridiculously easy to drop the seat...problem is you need a cage to allow that mod :) Otherwise the structural integrity of the car has gone for shit

You're*

All that work to put a huge wing on your car... and you don't go fast enough to utilize it...

:banghead:

My coilovers do just fine. If I have money to get something else later then I will but spending like 3 grand to shave small increments off my laptimes isn't worth it. I'd rather spend it on 15 track events for driver mod.

Give me free stuff and you can put pretty stickers on my car too :D:

Driver mod FTW!

All that work..You mean bolt it up using the OEM holes?

And the wing is off the car now for racing, and yes it is faster.

Get yourself some Moton's :)

Oh and PS. The wing made a huge difference at just 50mph. Doesn't mean it's faster, just means that it works.

^ what is your contribution to this thread again?

Stop being a Douche and shitting in other people's threads.

Nice seat mod Orca. Glad its working so well for you.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today...

WTBRotary! 09-28-2012 01:09 PM

This thread is lulz. But yes I'm 6'2" and I have some headroom issues, mainly with a helmet because I have a GT and the sunroof kills like 2 inches of headroom

TopGear8 09-28-2012 01:17 PM

^With my Corbeau seat my helmet is on the headliner and i'm only 5'9. The bottom seat mounts don't leave very much room to play.

But I also like being able to sit upright as I can because it allows me a great field of view outside of the car.

WTBRotary! 09-28-2012 01:24 PM

^^^ as do I when I can find time to get out to the track/AutoX... With stock seats I have to like stick my head out the sunroof with a helmet. Sucks...

Dan507 09-28-2012 04:02 PM

Looks good bud. I don't room problems though. i'm 5ft7

Have you thought about stripping the interior loom about buddy? i'm doing this to mine ATM

My Car is RHD, I've completely removed the Drivers side loom, thats all for the stereo. The middle loom is for the Airbags and seats and the passenger side is for the odd bits. 70% of that can go also. all you need it the lights, ABS, Traction control, and fuel pump and level gauge

Arca_ex 09-28-2012 06:24 PM

Yeah the things you guys are talking about with clearance issues with helmets is what drove me to do this. Imagine being 6'5" like I am and trying to find a good seating position for track days in the stock seats. It was terrible.

I'll also agree that my seating position is too low for autox, where identifying cones quickly is crucial, but for road course I like it. Lower center of gravity and I'm pushed way back. I'm just waiting on my steering wheel, hopefully it extends out enough. I got a momo hub, NRG gen 2 quick release and a momo Mod.08 wheel which is 350mm diameter with a 90mm dish.

And yes the wiring loom is next on the list for weight reduction.

Great work there!

Looks really good.

Is it ok to post some pics? this was shot during fab so its not close to final finish ;-)

My car is for Endurance and need sliders

TeamRX8 09-29-2012 09:31 AM

Pretty sure you would not have any helmet clearance issues in mine. The seat you choose has as much to do with it as anything. I just shaved the factory seat slider rails and installed tabs to custom mount Kirkey road race seats. No floor pan mod required. The factory seat cushions are really thick which is why you sit so high with them. Like 4" or so. You can gain that much clearance in a factory seat by taking the foam insert out, just as an example not that you would want to do it that way

Nice! My seat is adjustable but it takes about 45 minutes to make a seat adjustment, it's very tedious. I like that you kept the cross bar there. I found that without it the floorpan is VERY weak so my fabricator welded in a plate connecting the seat brackets and reinforced a couple other things.

He also welded in two small plates where the lap belts attack to the floor and the anti-sub belts attack to the reinforcement plate under the seat. All four eye bolts go through the plate and floorpan with a massive washer on the underside and a decent sized washer on the top.

Yeah I thought about doing that with the stock seats but then I drove my dad's Miata around for awhile. He has an Ultrashield full containment seat and 6-pt harness in there and I instantly knew I wanted a fixed back bucket seat with harnesses. Completely different driving experience for me and I can feel everything the car is doing, I can't wait to hit the track next weekend. There's also the bonus of having the HALO protection, and next on the safety list is HANS. I'm also very pleased with the seat, it is super comfortable and very supportive. Fits me like a glove. I've modified the seat cushion to take out about 1" of padding though so I sit deeper in the seat, and I actually had to raise the seat a little bit. It can still go an inch lower but at that point I can no longer see over the steering wheel and dash.

Just waiting on my steering wheel now. Trying to move it about 4" towards me. I got a Momo regular sized hub, NRG Gen 2 Quick Release which is the tallest one they have, and a Momo Mod.08 which is 350mm diameter with a 90mm dish.
