heat test at road atlanta

well--in just a few hours the w/e track event for us will begin. We will be at Road Atlanta this Saturday and Sunday. The temp forecast today is 105F in Macon Ga(about 100miles south)-- and that is not a heat index adjustment.
Now I have ran on a 100F day at Roebling Road with out a problem but that track is not as demanding as Road Atlanta.
The pavement itself will be over 140F--pits and track. We have prepared the cars best we can(we have about 5-6 rx8's participating) and a few of us do have gauges. It is going to be interesting in many ways.
Will report on Monday.

RA was no problems at 105F---my coolant was 215F maxed and oil was 230 maxed. if i slowed just a little the temps would come right down.
Mazmart---we did identify fan belt probs. 2 of us lost fan belts. Fan belt pulley temp was 200F degrees when I parked and lasered it. Rob with ROAR Racing(super guy---really a great supporter of our little group) was having overheating problems with his street/track rx8. His is set up a little different than ours of course!!

can you just outline what your tips are to stay cool OD . Also tell us what you have done with the car :lol2:

sure man---this is what i have done that i think helps with temps.
1- i run a 70/30 blend with one bottle of water wetter
2- no screens (a/c or oil coolers)
3- underdrive pulley(helps with cavitation issues i believe)
4- synthetic oil --it does run cooler
5- did the little hood vent mod(on forum)
6- one fan comes on at 185F-190F
7- adjusted track gearing with 17" wheels (and shorter tire) so the engine remains in the power band but spend less time in the 8-9K area
8- do not drive at high rpm and partial throttle when you are not actually accelerating, use engine management skills
9- i removed the front airdam "buck tooth" (the rotor symbol) and added a very thin air dam support bar--it opened up more air flow through that area
With my experience both on and off the track --i can reasonably say that I do not have a temperature problem in my enviroment. Nevertheless--i always monitor for it.:)
