FS: Surge tank custom

https://www.dropbox.com/s/l5pcobb9xo...722_164216.jpgFor sale my custom made aluminum surge tank. paid 250 to have it made. It uses a 2 gen rx7 fuel assembly (gutted). The pump is inside the tank. Currently is painted Black.

Shoot me an offer.

or trade for an inline pump

Confused on how you would run this in the rx8. Can you go into more details?

Stephen

From the tank to the surge tank. Surge tank to engine. Return to surge tank then to oem tank

You would need to convert to a return style system with an external regulator...and have an inline pump between the surge tank and the engine.....otherwise you will have the same pressure drop out when the in tank pump looses fuel

airman90 03-01-2014 12:32 PM

The way I have it. The fuel pump is inside the surge tank

dannobre 03-01-2014 12:34 PM

That works :) Mine is setup like that too....

We spoke on the phone once. You gave me the idea to use the surge tank.

ScubaSteve8 03-02-2014 12:22 AM

External regulator should be set at 58psi if I'm not mistaken?

airman90 03-09-2014 09:34 PM

I believe is 40 idle

airman90 03-09-2014 09:35 PM

Hey Dan where do you have the surge tank mounted. I want to relocate my tank from the trunk to under the car but I can't come up with a good idea

dannobre 03-09-2014 09:35 PM

Regulator doesn't know what the rpm is... so it is the same at all speeds as long as the pump can keep up :)

dannobre 03-09-2014 09:36 PM

Mine is in the trunk. . No way it would fit anywhere else

The problem I see with it being in the trunk is that the fuel pump inside the oem tank doesn't flow like it should. Instead I see air in the line going to the surge tank. I believe is because the s. tank is much higher than the oem

dannobre 03-09-2014 09:49 PM

The trunk isn't higher than the fuel rail. .... the oem pump would be pumping at zero pressure. . So it shouldn't have any problem pumping up to the trunk. If the oem pump is sucking air you will get bubbles

Well thats what I see. Bubbles.

airman90 03-09-2014 09:52 PM

I had to put a clamp on the line going to the surge tank to create back pressure. Because it wouldn't siphon fuel from the other side.

dannobre 03-09-2014 10:41 PM

How do you have the return line from the surge tank plumbed?

airman90 03-10-2014 06:25 AM

I have the return from the motor to the surge tank and from the surge tank to a fitting on top of the cap/top of the fuel assembly

dannobre 03-10-2014 08:21 AM

Return the surge tank overflow to the siphon on the oem pump assembly. That way you should still get transfer from the other side

ScubaSteve8 03-10-2014 05:00 PM

What about under the hood where the windshield washer fluid bottle used to be?

dannobre 03-10-2014 06:47 PM

Personally I wouldn't put it there...too hot...and right above the manifold :(

ScubaSteve8 03-10-2014 07:47 PM

Ahhh good point...If I said that in public I'd expect to be smacked for that! :banghead:

airman90 03-10-2014 09:39 PM

Good point Dan. But will the return from the surge tank have enough pressure to make the siphon work? I might relocate it to under the trunk where the exhaust tip used to be. I have single exhaust.

airman90 03-10-2014 09:42 PM

Maybe a restrictor or a reducer from the -6 line to a -3 fitting and a -3 hose to the outlet of the pump so it can create pressure to make the siphon work. What do you think
