Ever wonder how much top speed u can gain on track with Catback
1 Attachment(s)
Every one love the sounds of catback exhaust, and most of manufacturer will told u how, much hp it add, and people will told u how much faster it feel
But for people like Us track guy, how much performance it will gain on track is what we aim for Here are the back to back test in 3 day MACHINE 05 Rx8 sport Engine: mazda reman with K&N drop filter Suspension: Mazdaspeed spring/shock .F/R subframe bushing Tire: Dunlop Z3 front 245/4018 rear 265/35/18 The exhaust I put is used R magic exhaust But it can be any rx8. Quality cat back with dual exhaust The performance gain Top speed 158km VS 155km Turn3 139km VS 137KM Turn8. 96 VS 95Km Just some of example Minus the driver error. The average gain is2-3km faster But on the day with Exhaust install, track still have some wet spot from night rain , plus my big miss shift!! so my lap time is same......... Here are the video of testing Exhaust Stock |
You crack me up ...

I may not be the most educated on mods, but catbacks are not made to help you with handling.
Here is a video of a more scientific testing from Engineering Explained. |

I mean any attempt of lowering the weight of a car will yield in better handling (within reason)
Noticeable gains? Likely not. The combined effect of the reduced weight and HP improvement has been tested and as Jason from EE explained, even he doesn't think it's worth it, especially considering the cost. Weight reduction can help handling, for sure, but again, the difference is quite small in this case, well within the driver error range. |

To answer the question in the subject, no, I have never wondered this.

If only it was so easy to minus teh driver error ... :cwm27:

Give me all the times/speeds used to calculate your averages, and I'm willing to bet you I can prove the driver error is a much larger margin than what you claim this catback provides (and realize that your claims resulted in less than a 2% increase)

criticism is easy , I am not shop or part maker
Try to sell parts, just a track enthusiasm If u guys see the back to back video more carefully The track with exhaust install , it have more wet spot, with that factor and car still clocking same lap time and faster end speed, at same set of tire and driver , some thing must improve Also The track is 1hr away , for pass 8 years I had already 1000lap in hot, I am pretty familiar this track, I am hands down guy, I think my test is pretty neutral , unless u guys can show up with different test foam , mabe just chill and have fun |
Chill and fun is ok, but most racers here might think a thread about an overpriced and heavy jdm catback in the racing area is silly if not juvenile

I live in Asia now, 3000mile form USA, is easier and much cheaper for me to buy Jdm part FYY, the R magic cat back is used set I pay about 100 USD from friend I am big fan of Racing beat too, I had their Rev intakes on my other Rx8, but to have their catback ship to my country is not logical On my thread, I say any good quality catback Not just Jdm !!!! I think this is where u guys miss understanding |
If that’s how you see it then you might be better received over in the S1 aftermarket parts forum area. This people in this racing forum area are mostly in America and Canada. Which the racing culture here is a bit different than over there. Not trying to mean or hurtful, just trying to help you understand why the kind of things you want to post about our not being taken seriously in the racing forum area, if not possibly perceived as being silly and maybe annoying.

Is that also why you produced a youtube video?
We are already have one youtuber who puts up all kinds of junk for his audience, who then take it as gospel. I could also easily make a video where my lap times did not appreciably change after installing a catback. So could many others here. Are we all wrong? |
